questions about the safety of a 1988 civic hatch
hello, looking to get some answers for as to how safe a 1988 civic hatch would be to drive. im pretty sure they dont have airbags so how does that affect the overall protection of the car? looking into my first car and i really like the 80s hatches. thanks!

Re: questions about the safety of a 1988 civic hatch
It will have the safety standards of a 30 year old car.
Safe to drive, probably wouldn't hold up too well in a crash though. And not very safe for you in the event of an accident because no air bags, door beams, etc. But I like the look of them too and would love to get my hands on one

My 22 year old son spent months restoring a 1988 Honda Civic hatchback SI. He was hit head on and had to be cut from the car— no air bags. He had his seat belt on, but still sustained a brain injury and slipped into a coma. The woman who hit him had airbags and sustained minor injuries.

[QUOTE=Momofthree;4779959] I’m sorry to hear that. I hope he’s doing better now.
Things like that are exactly why I hate the saying “they didn’t make cars like they used to”. They don’t, and for good reason.
