Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

Hey all, just purchased a 2005 EX SE with 165k on the clock. I have been over most of the related posts about people with their CC not working but most of them never came back with the fix for their problem. I am pretty handy with electronics and know my way around a Fluke pretty well. Id just like someone who knows the system better than I to help out a bit Basically, the CC system is dead. No lights, no response, no action. I have checked the related fuses (7, 4, and 10) and they check out. I have also disassembled the Cruise switch and it works (the leds are bad though). When you press the switch, nothing shows up on the dash. Ive got power from wire BLK/ORG from Fuse 4 to both the Cruise switch and to the Cruise Control Unit (IG). How would one diagnose the Cruise Control Unit knowing power is making it there? Also, FYI my daytime running lights are also inop. Dunno if that may be related but there it is Thanks for any input.

Re: Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

Just an FYI.. nothing will show up on dash that cruise is on except for when activated.

The LED issue with the switch is common mine also doesn't work I just keep it pushed in for cruise to be on so when I want to use its one less step.

As far as testing for power to the control unit.. i'd have to look at a wiring diagram. let me see if I can locate one..

Re: Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

My switch works for sure, its got power from BLK/ORG and it comes out with power on LT GRN which runs to the Brake Pedal Position Switch (which does work).

Re: Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

The bulbs in the switch are incandescent and replaceable if you wish.

Coupe vs sedan, use different cruise systems
Coupe: ECU built into actuator
Sedan: ECU under dash

I'd have a correct wiring diagram and test most items electrically at the plug for the cruise ECU

Dash fusebox fuses #4, #10
engine compartment box fuse #7

You have B+ output from the main switch, check for same at the cruise ECU

Do BOTH brake switch inputs reach the cruise ECU and flip-flop states when the pedal is pushed?

Does the horn work
Clockspring, steering wheel switches

clutch pedal switch OR trans range switch input to the cruise ECU correct?

Re: Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

It was the Control Unit, I swapped it with a known good one and it worked. The lights in the Cruise switch are definitely bad too since they dont light up and the system works. Now, I have to figure out why my car overheats, which it just started yesterday.... Its always something...

Re: Yet another guy with no Cruise Control

I just burped the system about 30 minutes ago. The overflow wasnt high or anything and the car isnt putting out any white smoke. The head gasket, water pump and head bolts were all done last month so I hope to God it got done right.lol
