Engine Swap in 2002 Honda Civic EX

Hey guys, I'm new here account-wise, but I've browsed these forums for honda solutions for quite a while and I have a question which I think best suits you guys.. Unfortunately, the engine in my 2002 Honda Civic EX has blown. I was looking at taking this opportunity to replace my engine with a higher performance engine, and I was wondering what I need to look for, and what I can put in size wise for an engine in my car. Ideally I would like a Honda Type-R engine but I don't think that's going to happen. So any suggestions or tips or anything from you guys?

Non Type-R options

k24 from a accord/element is dirt cheap ($300-800) and will give you nice "pep."

You could also go k24 bottom/k20 head (w/type r internals) still cheaper than type r.

New ex head w/built internals stage 1/2/3 crower cam and turbo (prob easiest in terms of fit and wiring)

I'd imagine it works, but you'd still have to do a bunch of mods to make any K24 (even the franken-K20/24 swap) to make it fit.. If my memory serves me correctly, you'd have to make the entire engine sit physically lower by about 4cm to make it so you can close your hood. I can't recall if that 4cm drop still makes you trim the hood at all.
