Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Hello guys, I posted on here a few years ago about fixing my car and I still have the same car. It is a 1991 lx. Last time i asked about the a/c and fixing it up and what not. Since then I have gone through 2 head gaskets, some break problems and most recently the transmission is slipping so I'm saving to get that fixed. So my question is, what can I do to improve my car all around such as interior to exhaust and all in between? I am planning to do all this once Ive fixed my tranny. I already know I want rims and to fix the interior.
I am do not know anything at all about cars so if you could describe what each thing would do that would be nice.
For example, I dont know what headers are and I dont know what camber kits are and so on. I do know that I do want to fix my car
Any help and replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks:]

Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
It all depends on your taste. Engine swaps, turbo/supercharger, exhaust upgrades, suspension upgrades, times & tires, body kits, spoiler, seats, interior lights, steering wheel.
Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
As far as engine swaps I think im gonna hold off on that. Im not sure what turbo/superchargers do. And I am planning on changing my exhuast. I feel like my car is fine the way it is so no suspension for it. A spoiler on my car would look ugly haha. Im not sure what times is but I am planning on getting new tires and a new steering wheel.
So Ive been looking on craigslist for a hatchback thinking about buying one Ive been seeing people post theirs with all their mods. Im wondering if I could do what they do on my civic. Heres a list of one of the adds.
New timing belt
New slave cylinder
Short ram intake
Full nrg quick release
Carbon fiber spoon mirros replicas
Carbon fiber spoon duckbill replica
Skunk 2 shocks W/ skunk2 adjustable coilovers
Aftermarket lower control arms
Beaks bar
Rear camber kits
Jdm amber sidemarkers
Amber corners
Hids
Like I said I dont know anything about cars so if you could explain what each thing is and if Id be able to have then would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:]

Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Rims not times lol. Google has a better explanation than I do but
New timing belt ( timing belts go bad or get worn out from heat and wear also time)
New slave cylinder
Short ram intake (makes it look sporty and may add a .25-2hp gain)
Full nrg quick release (it is so you can detach your steering wheel and stop your car from getting stolen. Or slow them down)
Carbon fiber spoon mirros replicas (it a smaller mirror mold that adds style)
Carbon fiber spoon duckbill replica (style and only hatchbacks)
Skunk 2 shocks W/ skunk2 adjustable coilovers (suspension and better handling. Some just use them to lower their cars to make them look "cool")
Aftermarket lower control arms (suspension and better handling)
Beaks bar (strut tower I believe. It give a bit better handling an even weight distribution)
Rear camber kits (suspension upgrade)
Jdm amber sidemarkers (Japanese style turn signals)

Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Hoo boy, you're gonna learn today. There are two types of ways a car takes in air:
1.) Natural aspiration: This is how your car, and most other cars do it. Basically, the engine itself sucks in air, mixes it with fuel from the injectors (or carburetor on older models), blows it up inside the cylinder to make power, and pushes the exhaust out through the pipe at the other side. It works well, but there is a way to drastically increase power...
2.) Forced induction: You use a device that physically PUSHES air into the engine, compressing it and allowing more air and fuel to get mixed in the cylinder, in turn providing more power. There are two types of devices that do this:
a.) Turbochargers: These are compressors that are powered by the exhaust gases being expelled from the engine, kind of like how a waterwheel works on a river but with air. Since the exhaust isn't being used for anything else, these are really efficient. Most Civic enthusiasts will pick this option over the next one...
b.) Superchargers: These are similar to Turbochargers but with one key difference: They are directly driven by the engine. Unfortunately, this requires some of the engine's power to operate, so it's kind of a "spend some to make more" philosophy. A lot of muscle cars with plenty of excess power use these.
Now you know and...

Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Thanks so much for the replies! Both of you were very helpful!
Not really sure how much of this would look on my car but I will look into it!
And I did learn a lot today and thanks again haha.

Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
Another question, are there places I can take my car that would be able to install most of these things or would I have to do it on my own or find someone who does it on the side?
Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
a.) save a lot of money and
b.) make sure the job is done right
There are threads all over the place here that can help you out if you look them up, but it's all about what kind of stuff you feel comfortable doing. I'm slowly expanding my comfort zone and doing all my mods myself (except the timing belt... I went to a Honda specialist for that) and I have all the great people on this site to thank.
Re: Honda civic 1991 lx questions
I wanna do it myself and I think I will when I get my transmission fixed, but like you said I'd wanna be comfortable first. Thanks for the reply!:]
There are always places you can go like race shops and such, but for a lot of it you can do it yourself and
