Looking at a 6th Gen for first car- Fun to customize?
Looking at a 6th Gen for first car- Fun to customize?
Hey all, new member here. I am looking at getting a 1996 or up Civic 5 speed for my first car. Here's my question- alot of my friends are into the whole rice burner and custom Civic thing, and I'd like to get into it- Would a car like http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ws...015838157.html that be a good place to start? Also, what are some easy modifications for this, and is it a good first car? Thanks!

Welcome!
Looks to be in good shape. I would take it for drive see if the clutch is slipping any, ask about maintenance and all.
There are lots of mods you can do. Basic bolt on stuff like intake, headers and exhaust. More advanced stuff for more power like cam swaps, boost and engine swaps. Suspension is a good place to start since 6th gens handle well.

The 6th gen 1996-2000 were considered best for this and have the largest selection of mods compared to any other gen. That being said the best mods that can be made to this gen are suspension and handling. You can bolt on exhausts, air filters, headers etc, etc, etc but overall gains are really limited until you start to pour serious money into the engine. You'll never get that money back on a 1996 unless you part it out (something to think about). I drive a 6th gen and love it. Unfortunately one of my neighbors also has a 6th all riced out with the big fart can exhaust waking everybody in the neighborhood at 2am all the time, so yeah, try to avoid mods that make your neighbors want to boot **** you at 2am.
Oh yeah, my first mod on that car would be wheels and tires. It'll look a lot different just doing that.

That's what i love most about my Civic, the list of mods possible is almost endless. "Bolt on parts" aren't overly expensive. Try www.procivic.com they have pretty much everything you could want and the prices aren't too bad.

I agree with everyone here, I have stock suspension and she handles corners very well. Turbo setup and over great prices on parts. Procivic and andyautoparts is what's under my hood.
