Do I need a new clutch master cylinder?
Do I need a new clutch master cylinder?
This is a thread to keep talking to marek91, if you're still out there.
Based on the video you sent to me (link), I took a look at my own clutch master cylinder and I see some grey greasy stuff coming out of mine, too. Do I need to replace my clutch master cylinder?
See attached pictures
edit: if I do have to replace it, where do you recommend buying OEM parts?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The grease resembles Moly lube.
I probably wouldn't replace the master unless it's leaking brake fluid or doing something really wrong.
OEM parts: Dealer.

There are more, google it.

When I had a Mazda Protege5, the forums I visited back then recommend RockAuto. But when I search RockAuto, all of their parts are WAY cheaper than the places you all recommend. I was going to buy an ACDELCO clutch master assembly (back when I thought I had to replace it, thanks ezone for reassuring me that it isn't necessary) for something like $35 as opposed to $95 from the places you guys listed.
Anybody had experience with RockAuto?

Localkineguy, To me that looks like the seal on the master is worn and it is leaking, that sludge is usually a sign of a bad slave, now does that mean its not doing its job? no I bet it feels perfectly fine, and I bet that is a very slow leak, probably the original master in the car, I took a picture of the Master in my Coupe, as you can see its a lot more cleaner looking, but it appears like my seal has failed as it it starting to gunk up, the master should look clean with no grease or liquid in the area, you may find some grease on the adjuster bolt on the other side of the rod. I will probably get another 2 years out of mine before I replace it. Just keep an eye on your Fluid.
Oh on a side note the reason mine probably is starting to fail because I had just put a Stage 2 clutch/pressure plate in so the greater force (stiffer pressure plate) could have caused my seal to pop as it is old and not used to the greater force required to engage the clutch, but putting a new OEM master would fix that. Its also recommended to do the Slave if doing the master one its just one of those parts when one fails the other is not far behind, and the new parts will sometimes have a greater force and may cause the other (older part) to fail as the seal is not used to the force.
Let me know how things work out for you.

I stuck with the same master cylinder but I did flush out the reservoir according to the video marek91 gave me.
My clutch feels great with the new fluid in there
