tpms re-sync

does anyone know if you can sync a new tire pressure sensor on a 2009 civic ex-l or is it strictly a dealer item?

Re: tpms re-sync

A new tire pressure sensor must have its unique I.D. number "learned" to the car. A dealer scanner is the only way to do this.

There are other options (if your tire store actually spent any real money to handle this service), one aftermarket company has "cloneable" sensors that can be programmed with the original I.D. number of the original sensor. The system inside the car is then "fooled" into thinking it sees an original sensor.
