Oil & Filter Change

I have a 2008 Honda Civic LX. I have always changed my own engine oil and filter until physical problems got the best of me. Other than the dealership, is there a national retail chain of some kind that can do this work correctly. I've been using a guy for a while but he just seems cut too many corners. He lets the engine cool down too much before he starts the job. He puts the plug back in before the oil starts to drip. He tells me I can bring my own filter and then substitutes his own for it. I'd like to find a business that can do the work at least 90% correctly.

Re: Oil & Filter Change

Is there something wrong with using your local dealer?
It seems reasonable that there is a far better chance of getting it done somewhat correctly, and at least they will use factory filters.

Apparently there is something wrong with your "regular mechanic".
(If I get more fiber in my diet, can I be a "regular mechanic" too?)

Re: Oil & Filter Change

Finding someone to do a careful complete job is next to impossible to find. Dont count on a chain store to give you the service you expect. You might get it one day and never again.

If you are in a larger town you may find some good kids at the vocational school. Many of them are good and the instructor tries to make sure they do a proper job.

Re: Oil & Filter Change

When I dont do it myself i just pay the 40 bucks at the dealer for them to do it. Most if not every chain is about volume of cutomers and not quality of work. I find that the some of the small town mechanics can be good if you have one you know or trust.. but you risk people doing a half **** job anywhere you go..
