whats a good stero head for 02 honda civic ex?
Hello everyone!
Just wanted to say that ive been a member for several days now and ive really enjoyed how knowlageable and helpfull everyone has been!
anyway! I have a honda civic ex 02 that i purchased several months ago. now it has an aftermarket stero thats not bad but no ipod hook up or aux cable port. I am not looking to put subwoofers in or alter the speakers in anyway i would very much like to hook my ipod or iphone up the the stero and play music. Any one have any suggestions on a stero thats between 100 and 150$? also would i need to alter the alternator in anyway to compensate for a new stero? or is that only for subs and soforth. any input is welcome! also if you have pics of your car steros or subs youd like to show off by all means post them!
thanks everyone!

Boom! Can't beat this price if you want a single-DIN deck...

Re: whats a good stero head for 02 honda civic ex?
I would spend closer to your budget to get a head unit with Bluetooth capability. I have an Alpine head unit that I have had for 4 years. It originally didn't have the Bluetooth with it but it came with the option to add it. It played my iPod which is what I needed but later when I got an iPhone I wanted the Bluetooth. So I added it as a separate unit and it is definitely worth the cost. Works great with my iPhone 4. You can get an Alpine unit with the built in Bluetooth from crutchfield for $150. Buy from crutchfield, they give you everything you need with instructions on how to remove the radio. You don't need to upgrade the alternator with just a head unit, only if you added a sub would you (maybe). I have a sub and the stock alternator does just fine. Since you have a good budget I would get as many features as you can. If you do decide to go with a Bluetooth unit make sure to research or check the manufactures website to make sure it will work with your iPhone. I might have a problem when I get an iPhone 5 since my head unit is older but we will see. Some units work better with certain cell phones.
Also, hopefully whoever installed the aftermarket radio that is in your car now didn't do a hack job. If they did cut the factory wires it will be harder to get an adapter harness so you may need to cut and solder the wires yourself or stick to a unit that will use that same adapter.

get a pioneer DEH-4300ub at Crutchfield...
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/Car...FBrand|Pioneer
and get a pioneer DEH series...they will give you the instructions, receiver kit (plastic shell that goes over the installed radio) and a wiring harness...
I did my 1999 civic ex with a pioneer deh-3400ub in less than 2hrs and it only took me 45 min the 2nd time when I totaled the car 2 weeks ago and put the stock unit back it. Very easy to do...don't fear doing it yourself.
The ipod controls are OUTSTANDING with these units...love it, esp for a sub $100 price
I think those DEH-2X00 series radios are on sale everywhere now because crutchfield has limited inventory and says call to order with no price listed...must be very on sale

Re: whats a good stero head for 02 honda civic ex?
I recommend Pioneer or Alpine, both very decent brands that offer head units you are looking for.
I personally have an Alpine with iPod and AUX capability. I got it from Crutchfield for ~$110. It improved my factory speakers' sound a lot. The only downside is the annoying blue light at night. Pioneer is just as good except it doesn't have the annoying blue light.
Anyways, you can't go wrong with those two brands.

I have a Kenwood KIV-BT900. Its a good radio, but I wanted to put a screen in or go with something else. It has Ipod/Iphone hook up and charge, but no cd drive. It is only digital. Will sell for $120 shipped.
