Front speaker Install tip...

Replaced the front speakers in what is now my wife's 2002 Civic EX 4dr yesterday. Pulled the old factory ones out (Thanks to a handy DIY from here), and was confronted by the fact that my new speakers didn't fit through the speaker holes in the door and fit flush...

This tip came from a car audio guy that I have bought a few things from...I wasn't smart enough to come up with it on my own.

I was going to cut out some spacers from some MDF or OSB, but figured I could buy a couple spacers for $5 or so. My car audio guy laughed and said, "Man, you already got some spacers." I was pretty confused, cause all I had was empty speaker holes, new speakers, and the old cardboard/paper speakers that I just took out.

He suggested that the best way to do this was to carefully remove the old speakers, without cracking the plastic clips on the bottom that mount the speaker to the door. Then rip out the paper cone of the old speaker and use a dremel to cut the plastic "mesh" of the back of the old speaker. This leaves a perfect mount/spacer since it is the factory piece. Then simply screw the new speaker to the lip of the old speaker casing, (where the outer edge of the paper cone was attached) and pop them back in.

Worked great for me. Hope it does someone else some good. Let me know if you've got any questions.
