Civic Selling Advice
Civic Selling Advice
I'm looking for advice. I own a 2002 Tan Civic EX with a few problems and wondered whether I should: 1) Sell it as is, 2) pay someone to fix the problems, 3) Try to fix some of the issues myself. Here are the problems:
- The air conditioning no longer works. I tried to get it charged and this is not the problem.
- The odometer/speedometer/cruise control stopped working approximately 10,000 miles back at 148,695 miles.
- The car is a bit beat up. Scrapes in the corner. Sap fell on the car from being parked under a pine tree so I used steel wool and messed up the clear coat.
I was in college so I didn't treat the car great. Now I'm a bit more mature and trying to determine what to do with this vehicle as I move on. The clutch, transmission have been replaced.
What should I do??? Thank you for your input.

With the market/jobs/gas the way it is now. I would recommend fixing the issues. Most people won't want to pay for the car, then have to pay to get it fixed. They want a car they can start using now. On the other hand. The honda market is huge right now. A mechanic may want to buy your car cheaper, fix the issues himself, them make a profit on the car.
I would get estimates on repairing the the odometer and ac, then determine what you could get for the car if it was fixed or if it was left alone.

Well by putting money into it, you might not see it back. But fixing the issues will definitely make it more appealing to someone that is looking for a car they can start using immediately.

Paint work is very difficult if you don't have experience. I would just leave it be.
As far as getting an estimate, It depends on what kind of shops you have around. Do not take it to a dealership, they will charge you an arm and a leg. Find a decent size shop and tell them the problems and have them take a look and to give you an estimate before they repair anything.
