Exhaust Rattle

Hey guys, looking for a little insight.
I bought my civic about 5 months ago, the previous owner had installed exhaust on it that I don't especially care for, but I don't hate it enough to pay to change it back to stock - or to something legit.
The problem I'm having is that when I'm stopped at an intersection, sometimes the exhaust starts shaking to the point where it rattles against the bumper. it's got quite a bit of clearance from the bumper and my car is really low- so I don't want to make the exhaust any lower than it is, I just want to rig up something like a brace so it doesn't vibrate as much. any thoughts? Trying not to really spend much money.

Re: Exhaust Rattle

Usually the exhaust is held up by a hanger (metal) that's welded to the exhaust. The hanger is hung from a rubber piece to reduce vibrations in the car. You could have the muffler shop just straight weld the hanger to the car. If that's not enough then have them weld another hanger on there for more support. This is all routine for the muffler guy and shouldn't cost too much or take too long.

There are also rubber hangers that might be worn out. Is it the correct exhaust for the car. I know its aftermarket but is it a direct fit or a welded fart can? Have any pics?

It's a welded fart can
I know, I'm not proud.
I can probably take some pictures tomorrow in the light, I think I'm just going to have to go to the hardware store tomorrow and get creative and find something to brace it that won't burn or melt.
And, if that doesn't work, give in and take it to a muffler guy who will probably get a good laugh at my exhaust.

Well, if you're gonna do that then get some metal strap and some self-taping metal screws. Then wrap the pipe with the strap and screw the strap to something.

***Be very careful not to screw into the fuel tank, modules, or wires.

Laz's Tip 'O the Week: Duct tape, super glue, and a screwdriver can fix half the sh*t you own. The other half takes about $5000 in specialty tools.

Re: Exhaust Rattle

Im sure that if you take it to an exhaust shop they wont charge you more than 75 dollars to secure your exhaust and that is a high guess. I would say 50 bucks. Good luck with it!
