little odd noises and a "choke up" during acceleration...

I started noticing a new noise, the best thing I could compare the sound to was if you were to run over a flattened aluminum can on the road and it makes that little tink sort of sound as it bounces on the pavement, but it was coming from under the hood. Sort of like a little tiny sputtering sound almost, and it continued off and on while I was driving.
Then, this morning, as I was accelerating (after having driven a few miles), it started to "choke", it was almost as if I were a new driver learning how to work a clutch, but I was going highway speeds, kind of a clunk, clunk, clunk. It did this about 3 times in the span of of about 20 miles. I also noticed that I went through a bit of gas on the way to work, not a lot, but I don't usually notice my gas gauge going down on the relatively short drive to work. I don't know if this sounds like anything you might be familiar with, or you have any ideas?

i have this same problem. 01 ex. it usually happens above 4k rpm. popping sound almost, and the car chugs durring acceleration above 4k. noticible power difference.

right after it started chugging again, my check engine light came on. then the rev limiting at 4k starting happening again. 4k and it just wont go any higher. last time this happened, i ran oil sys cleaner and changed the oil, and both the v-tec and tps codes turned off and it stopped. dunno if this has anything to do with the ticking, popping like sound, but after i changed the oil the acc went back to normal. gas mileage too.

If your CEL comes on, and changing the oil seems to help, and your acceleration at higher RPM is messed up... sounds to me like the VTEC solenoid. Oil gets pumped through it, and if it's too dirty you get a VTEC malfunction.

You may want to shorten your oil change intervals (if you are going every 5k, consider every 4k).
