95 civic DX crankshaft pulley

Hello, I just bought my civic with 105k miles and had to replace my engine due to my crank pulley falling off. The bolt snapped, obviously an existing issue. The new engine came from a CX. I need to purchase a crank pulley so I can run all three accessories(alt., ps and a/c). Lightweight aluminum pulleys cost as much as an oem replacement so I wanted to get one of those. But I recently read that the oem pulleys have a harmonic balancer and aluminum pulleys do not and will ruin bearings after a while. Any truth behind any of this? Help and info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 95 civic DX crankshaft pulley

It basically is the harmonic balancer (the weight spinning around acts as the balance). When you reduce that weight (aluminum pulley) it can't balance as good or at all.

Go to pick-and-pull and pull an OEM one off a car there. Last time I got a crank pulley there it was $6.99.

Ok, I'll just get one off a wreck or something. My next question is how the hell do I get the CX pulley off my " new " motor? My impact gun isn't doing anything. I have a breaker bar, but nothing to hold back on. They are regular threads right?? Right for tight, left for loose?

Yes.

OK. Spray it with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. If that doesn't work get a friend to help with next part. Get a cheater pipe for the breaker bar and have the other person bang on the bolt with a hammer. Only other thing to try is heat.

Re: 95 civic DX crankshaft pulley

I've been spraying it with WD-40 three times a day for three days. Not budging. I just need a hold back on something so the motor doesn't rotate. I'm afraid to try heat 'cause I don't want this bolt to snap too. Also, I hear the cx engine is a slug. should I swap my d15b7 head and intake manifold?
