After removing my head, I had it machined, valve seals replaced, and pressure tested. I adjusted the valves before putting the cover on. All is good.

Problem #1: Cranked the 2001 EX today and I heard clicking coming from the valve cover. I was thinking that maybe it was an adjustment issue or loose adjustment nut. I opened the top of the cover where the oil is poured. Air was coming out. Has anyone seen this before? Does that mean a valve seal is blowing by or something is not adjusted well.

Problem #2: The car does not want to leave 1st gear. At 3300 RPMs it leaves first gear. I have never had transmission issues with this car. With my foot on the break, when I put it in drive from park it lurches somewhat before taking my foot off. What sensor does the transmission look at to switch gears? Maybe it is loose.

I am hoping I did not cause more problems than the original head gasket issue.
