PLEASE HELP!!! SRI Installation; Malfunction Light on?!
Sorry for double posting but I really need help! I hope the moderators can understand...
First of all, I took out the intake resonator a long tyme ago but I didn't mess with the filter.
Okay, let's cut to the chase.
You know when you take out your bottom filter box there's 2 bolts that you have to take out? Well I took them out and when I got it, one of the bolt fell into the engine bay... I didn't see it where it dropped but I heard it drop somewhere near the catalytic converter and where the ignition is...
So I decided to put back everything except for the intake resonator. So I put it back with just one bolt. When I started the car, the "malfunction light" was on. It is a picture of an engine. Now I don't know what to do?!?!
Then I put on the SRI and hopefully I installed it ryte. And styll the "malfunction light" was on and I don't know where is the bolt that drop?! I tried looking for it! Putting my hands innetween the engine parts (fan, catalytic converter, etc.) and I can't find that damn bolt!!! I even looked under the car literally!!! Putting 2 jack stands and styll can't find it!!! AHHH!!!
What should I do?!?!
Please help and thanks for your tyme... i've also experienced the whole "drop a part in the engine bay and never find it" thing. one of the nuts on my strut tower took a leap of faith when i was installing my strut bar. so i took the specs to every auto parts store around and couldn't find a single one to fit, so i had to wait on the dealer to order me a new one. a lot of hassle for such a small part.

Well I just talked to him on the phone.... This is a good lesson to learn for everyone. Anytime you install engine mods, you need to reset the ECU in order for it to calculate any adjustments it might need to make because of the modification. So basically after he reset the ecu, the light went away like that *snaps fingers*.......
Oh wow... sounds bad but I might help.
Ok a friend of mine wit a 2k1 Civic LX bought a huge filter and put it on the intake throttle body. He took off the resonater and everything, even the intake filter cap and the filter and the lower half of the intake filter box so he could fit the cone in. It fit all right and it was nice n snug. He turned his engine on and we drove it around, then we said, let's see if we got any ponies and he floored it BOOM jus like you, the light came on. The cone wasn't gettin enuff air through so he couldn't even go higher than 5000rpms heheh. We then took the car back to the garage and took the cone off, put all stock parts on and drove the car...still engine light. It was gettin dark so I told him, "hey, we'll figure it out tomorrow." Next day we were driving to the dealership and the engine light came off! We were like "good thing the dealership didnt make some BS and make him pay money for nuttin."
If ur car runs fine, and theres no weird noises or anything lose then my suggestion is put ur stock parts on, see how that rides and take it to the dealership but don't say nuttin about anything, and say ur engine light came on all of the sudden.
And about the loose bolt; I've dropped bolts and even fuses in the engine, everything's cool there shouldn't be a loose bolt causing the engine light to go on...I dont think so. Jus drive the car around stock and see how it responds.
Hope this help bro GOOD LUCK

I would take it to the dealer first but before you freak with the ECU they told me to try unplugging the battery...it sounds crazi but in theory its supposed to reset your ECU somewhat...if this doesnt solve anything put it all back stock and take it to the dealer see if they will install it for you....my dealer does this all the time deal is Honda installs it you keep warranty...so i say hey why not
as far as the bolt goes everything in the bay is pretty tight as is so a bolt taking a leap isnt gonna set off an "check engine" light no worries mate

You peeps seriuosly don't read the whole thread before you post huh? I said I already helped him fix it over the phone LOL! It was the ECU.....he just needed to reset it.....
And no you don't just reset the ECU by unplugging the battery.....here's how you do it:
-Unplug your NEGATIVE battery terminal only
-Wait 15 minutes
-Plug your NEGATIVE battery terminal back
-Start your vehicle, but DO NOT touch the throttle
-Let the car sit for 5 mins and check the RPMs.....it should be at the "normal" idle stage now (approx 800 RPMs). If it's not warmed up to the point of approx 800 RPM's, just wait until its at it, or near it
-Turn off your vehicle
-Start the car again, and you're good to go
