timing issue 82 1300fe
timing issue 82 1300fe
new to the group and seriously needing some help. recently had an ignition module go bad in my 82 civic 1300fe. replaced that, and now the the car has severely decreased top speed. it never was a speed demon, but can't get past 65mph on a downhill, with no wind (5th gear won't clear 3000rpm). before the module went out, it was bucking and surging at higher speeds. i've reset the distributor at numerous positions, from 0 degrees to 15 degrees advance, but still no top end. is it possible that the timing belt has slipped a tooth? could the new module be inferior or defective? i've seen some of the posts on this forum, and figure y'all would be the ones with some insight.
thanx in advance

Re: timing issue 82 1300fe
Is the car bucking when you attempt to accelerate? It sounds like your car had the same problem my 98 Civic HX had. It would buck violently when attempting to accelerate. When I unplugged the o2 sensor, the car ran perfectly fine (minus the exhaust fumes). But the problem actually wound up being the ECU though, and they certainly don't come cheap.

since i replaced the ignition module, it doesn't buck anymore.....just really sluggish in higher gears. when it did buck, it did it at higher speed cruising and would bog down on low speed acceleration.
Re: timing issue 82 1300fe---Problem Solved
Turns out Timing belt slipped 2 teeth. Got everything reset, and it runs better than it did when I first got it. Thanx for those that gave an effort to help with this.
