2000 Honda Civic factory wiring

Hi there! Over the weekend I was trying to install a new Pioneer FH-8000BT stereo into my 200 Honda Civic EX but we can't seem to get past the wiring. The factory wire harness was cut off and the wires are too short to reconnect. If I had done a little more research before buying the stereo I would have known to buy a harness for it! Anyway, I found the following diagram to help me match the factory wires to the aftermarket wires for 1998 and newer Hondas and Acuras:

Pin What It Is In Dash Wire Color Equivalent Wire Color
A Right Front Spkr (-) Brown w/ Black Stripe Gray w/ Black Stripe
B Right Front Spkr (+) Red w/ Green Stripe Gray
C Right Rear Spkr (-) Brown w/ White Stripe Purple w/ Black Stripe
D Right Rear Spkr (+) Red w/ Yellow Stripe Purple
E Do Not Use
F Do Not Use
G Do Not Use
H Dash Light Dimmer Wire Orange
I Honda Amp Ground Wire
J Left Front Spkr (-) Gray w/ Black Stripe White w/ Black Stripe
K Left Front Spkr (+) Blue w/ Green Stripe White
L Left Rear Spkr (-) Gray w/ White Stripe Green w/ Black Stripe
M Left Rear Spkr (+) Blue w/ Yellow Stripe Green w/ Black Stripe
N Ground Wire Black Black
O +12 Volt Ignition Wire Yellow w/ Red Stripe Red
P +12 Volt Battery Wire White w/ Yellow Stripe Yellow

Well needless to say not all of the factory colors were the same as listed so we guessed on a few and have not been able to figure it out. My radio won't turn on, my dash lights won't turn on, and the "ding" to warn me that my headlights are on when I get out of the car doesn't work. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!

get this from Metra:
http://metradealer.com/api/vfg/view-product/id/71-1721
it replaces the connector that was cut off. then you can get the other side that will match up to aftermarket colors (just don't connect the orange illumination wire)

Wow thanks! I still have a question about the wire for the remote control function that is on the new stereo harness and where that goes. I don't even know that I would use the remote but would kind of like the option. Any ideas where this hooks up to?

not sure if the 6th gen's have the "BACKUP" fuse under the hood like the 7th gens do. check that. did you hook up the orange illumination wire?

I will have to look after work and get back to you but I thought I made sure not to do that..... but my dash lights are working so something is off...... the installation manual says that the orange/white is for the lighting switch terminal so do I just leave both of those unconnected then?

Re: 2000 Honda Civic factory wiring

yes, just leave it off. on the 7th gen, the car does either a power or ground and the aftermarket HU's do the opposite, so it blows stuff up and certain lights stop working. some people have gotten them to work by using relays. if you really want the HU to dim at night then you can look into that.
