repaint my 04 civic

original color is silver, and I would like to chang it to black.
How much does it cost to repaint the whole car to black?
How much difference when comparing to the factory paint?

thanks

A full paint swap will be expensive it is roughly around 3000 to 5000.

ay if you got that kind of money and a lil time on your hands i'd say buy you a 20 gallon aircompressor and a paint gun. find you a hood or something and get to painting. you can buy paint from autozone that is like 22 dollars a quart. thats befor tax. and with all that you could save yourself money, have something your proud of, and if other people like it you could make money off of it.

Ya if he wanted to he could do this it would be alot better on his pocket. All you will need to do is start practicing on stuff till he gets good at it then start on his car. Most of the money you pay out of that 5000 is for labor. They have to strip the hole car done and take the motor out which will take a while then they have to sand it. Those are the 2 most time consuming and harder parts of it.

^ Or, just learn to do really good and thorough prep work.. do the prep yourself, then just pay for the paint job (rather than all the pre-paint work).
Not all places will do it this way, but if you're good at prep, but not paint, this might be an option.

Re: repaint my 04 civic

honestly you dont have to pull out the motor and stuff. you could just leave that place the same color.lol and you dont have to strip the car down if that silver is the original color. you could almost use the paint that is on there like a primer. you just have to sand off the clear coat. and then spray enough coats to cover up the paint, and i'd put atleast two coats of clear. then wet sand and you will have a BEAUTIFUL paint job.but take your time. and practice.

Yeah, it's all about the prep. Can't have good paint without a good foundation. About 5 years ago my friend and I prepped his S-10 and then he went and got a $200 MAACO paint job. 5 years in the Texas sun and it's just now starting to show wear.

*Your results may vary. lol*

For one its a macco paint job you are talking bout. But yes prep is everything. The best grit of sanding to use is 500. It will get rid of the clear coat and the base coat and get to the primar plus with that grit it will be not to fine but it works out well to lay down paint.

He's a cheap bastard plus he didn't want to spend money on a 15 yr old vehicle. We spent 3 loooong days prepping. lol

Re: repaint my 04 civic

Painting a car the right way is more than a do it yourselfer job esp changing colors. It is time consuming and lots of prep work. I would not recommend a first timer even attempting it.

Re: repaint my 04 civic

i didnt say it would be easy or that he should just go and paint his car. he should go buy some cheap automotive paint and start painting random items. i suggested a hood. i mean yea it takes alot of prep work..but what would you rather spend? a couple of days figuring stuff out then a day or two of prep and another for paint? or a couple grand.lol i would take the days of work befor i spent all that money. i mean here in clarksville oriellys sells house of kolor candy paint and a base paint. both gallon form for 400 dollars. we dont even need a gallon to paint our cars.

Re: repaint my 04 civic

thx. I got what you guys meant. I paint my rear bumper with spray balm and the color doesn't match my car's original color. "20 gallon aircompressor and a paint gun" , where can I buy them? And how can I guarantee the color will match my original paint? (I gave my color code to a local store and they don't seem to get a perfect match).

Re: repaint my 04 civic

well honestly your color porb didnt match because the color on your car has already began to fade. and the cheapest place i have found is harbor freight...if you dont know what that is its pretty much the poor man lowes.lol but their products are....alright i guess. they got a 21 gallon compressor online listed for 150. and they got a few paint guns ranging from around 20? idk to like 50 or so.

I would NEVER spend that kinda money at harbor freight unless you plan on using it only once or twice before it breaks. Their hand tools are sh*t and I wouldn't expect the big ticket items to be any better. I'm not knocking harbor freight, I buy stuff from them all the time, I'm just saying you get what you pay for especially when it comes from China or Taiwan.
