Body coloured strip on boot lid
Not sure if I'm posting in the correct section but here goes. I'm interested in painting the chrome strip on the boot lid of my Civic sedan body coloured. I'm referring to the chrome strip on the boot lid which is above the license plate and below the Honda emblem. See the pic in the attachment below.
Some people have advised me against this as they are of the view that the paint will not be able to stick on the chrome and will flake off easily. What do you think? Would it be advisable to sand down the chrome first before spraying? Or is it not a wise idea at all?
Thanks in advance.

I would if I could, but I can't find any place selling the body coloured strip here in Singapore. Been surfing the net too, but can't find any online shops which carry the body coloured strip and which is willing to ship to Singapore. Any recommendations?

<< Can anyone out there confirm if they have indeed installed on and it fits. >>
I haven't, but I can tell you with 95% confidence that it will fit. Why would Honda make a differently shaped part that only needs to be painted differently? That's what I'm going on.
<< Yeah, CF strips would be really cool. Do let me know if you come across any place which sells it >>
i can make it. i fyou can take the piece of, mail it to me, i will return it to you with a layer of real carbon on it. I can do this with prety much any thing you want me to, tho some parts will look better (hood, trim, trunk floor) than others (sideview mirrors, trunk walls, door panels?)

"paint needs a surface to bond to...so you ave to sand down the chrome with about 80..and use some good primer on it...then paint over the primered strip"
Thanks. If I need to sand down the chrome, I cannot afford to botch up the job then, otherwise I'll have to buy a brand new strip...

nope, ill take the existing piece, and laying on the fibercarbon directly over it. if its thick enough I will sand it down so that there is negligible difference in height (the one problem with this method, the stupid fibercabon has THICKNESS! )
and I will admit, ive only done this to my trunk walls. I'm scared to try this on anything else, espesially an exterior pert =/
(tho i have done it on all my fabricated perts, like my center console....)

Just checking - can the strip from the coupe fit the sedan? I notice from the Member's Rides that the coupe comes with the colored strip? If so, that may be the solution for me.
GO TO DEALER.... $32 for mine... Satin Silver Metallic
1st thing I bought after picking up my car. (The HX trim is black:barf
Cheap investment... worth buying.
Now I want the new mirrors and handles to be Silver.

For $32 I'd rather buy the strip factory sprayed anytime then. Better than taking the risk of ruining my stock chrome strip. Do you know of any dealer who will ship the strip overseas?

Ha ha, it takes time to build up a relationship of trust I guess! I will try again when I need to get something from the States!
Anyway, I've ordered the coloured strip for the coupe from Majestic Honda. Just hope it arrives in one piece. Thanks to everyone for your advices.
