water from the muffler?
water from the muffler?
I have a 93 civic dx coupe, and I have water that drips from my muffler. I cant smell radiator fluid in it, but my muffler (after market cat back) is starting to rust on the inside where the water flows. and it doesnt only do it when it is warming up, it is constant. I am getting slightly worried about it. anyone have any ideas?

Well if you can smell rad fluid and your blowing white smoke out the exhaust it could be a head gasket issue. Does the car overheat or are you filling the coolant up at all?

every car with a cat converter makes some water out the muffler from normal catalytic reactions. some have angled down exhaust pipe to drain it out better and prevent rust.

Re: water from the muffler?
Sounds like 1 of 2 things.
A small leak in the exhaust system can cause cool air to get pulled in with the escaping hot gasses and produce persperation in the pipes.
if a car is running rich the unused fuel vapor will cause your car to emit water vapor from the exhaust.
When did this start. Is it a recent change or are you just now noticing it.

Re: water from the muffler?
If your reffering to the pool of water under your car from the condensation of the AC piping...then yes. But he said it is coming out of the muffler. The AC/heating unit has nothing to do with internal combustion of the motor. Correct me if Im wrong.
Re: water from the muffler?
yes this is normal althou unlikely from a/c or heating. what happens in teh catylic converter is your exhaust gases pass thru a chamber filled with palladium covered ***** (hence catylic converters are worth money) anyway this produces a chemical reaction breaking down your exhaust gases into less toxic things one of which is water.
Re: water from the muffler?
holy cow have u guys never seen this before? look to car in front of u in traffic tomorrow, u will more than likely see the same thing
. not only does it come from the combustion process as it flows through the cat, your exhaust also attracts moisture with the constant heating and cooling (notice how the exhaust will rust b4 anything else on the car?) this is very evident if you never take any long trips in the car, it will build in the mufflers, im not trying to be an a$$hole, but some of u r makin this guy nervous with this
, and the reason why u dont notice it on your parents car is probly because they drive longer distances than you
