DIY Soon: Acura RSX Rear Sway Bar Conversion
So yeah, as I was installing my Neuspeed Front tower strut bar... I took a peak at my front sway bar and rear sway bar. boy the size difference is humongo. The stiffness in the front is probably now way stiffer than the rear. Even a 1 cm increase in the sway bar size is a big difference in the increase of stiffness. (the 02 ex has 13 cm rear sway. 01s have 12 cm.) obviously the 12cm aren't enough, or else Honda wouldn't have increase the size.
My options for a new rear sway were: Neuspeed, Comptech Sport's tie/sway bar combo (adjustable or non-adjustable). (I didn't know eibach was coming out with one.) Neuspeed wasn't out yet, and I was waiting for it. I just recently discover's Comptech's rear tie/sway combo, and its pretty tempting, especially the adjustable one, but thats rather pricy. (though I think the nonadjustable one is a reasonable price for a combo of a tie bar and a rear sway bar thats 22mm) Neuspeed's will be 19mm I believe, although I'm not sure, I'm basing this on their previous rear sways for previous generation of civics. And the cost will definitely be over 200 I believe. Same goes for the rest of the options.
Pricy? You betcha. While posting a thread about the comptech sport's rear tie/sway combo, someone mention the RSX's rear sway. Which gave me another option.
Anyhow, I'm rambling on, sorry. I went to www.acuraautomotiveparts.net and checked on the price of the components. It came out a lot cheaper. it'll cost me $83 total for the 19mm rear sway with the bushings, nuts, etc.
Now, assuming this is all you need:
bar - $60
bushing 6.9 for 2
nuts, bolts, brace, etc. for around $10
shippping is about $5 bucks..
anyhow, it comes out about $83 (although if u add the above, it comes out more, but trust me, its $83)
this is assuming I'm buying all I need, I took a look at the diagram and picked out the parts... there's two components that I'm not sure if I need, and they're rather pricy the linkage for the sway bar which cost like 26 bucks each ($53.44 total), I'm assuming u dont need the linkage since aftermarket sways dont come with them. BUT, the aftermarket ones are design to work with the stock linkage... anyhow, we'll see when I try to put the rear sway on.
it should be pretty simple bolt-on with no modification. one thing I'm worrying about is the brace & bushing to hold the sway bar in place, not sure if they'll bolt in the stock bolt placements, I might have to drill holes to bolt the sway on?
when the parts do come, I'll grab a digital camera, and take some pics along the steps, and hopefully have enough time to write a DIY, or let the pictures speak for themselves.
I think this is more affordable than aftermarket sways. And its a good option for me since I dont think I need a 22mm rear sway. And I save about 200 bucks in the process for a better sway. Although the Comptech adjustable on is highly tempting.
I also ordered a Neuspeed rear tie, but after emailing them, they say it wont come out till early summer... the store I order from made it seem like they're out already (bastards) I gotta go and get my money back... (if they'll even let.)
wow long post. suggestion? comments? info? thanks.

Hey CapYoda, I'm fixing to place my order for the rear sway also. I think 22mm would be overkill. Also, did you notice the RSX front sway is smaller than our front bar. I wonder why? It looks like you've got all the parts covered. I heard that our brackets will fit the bushings, but I'm not taking any chances, so I'm ordering the brackets too.

well, thicker/stiffer doesn't necessary mean better. Its all about tunning it to what you like. And the Honda engineer probably have the RSX with a smaller front sway bar for a reason. I mean they do come stock with front strut bar, and if u take a look at the Front Subframe Component - Performance Rod, you'll see that they have 2 other components besides the Front tower bar, that we dont have. A front rod and a rear rod. I think they're equivalents of tie bars... I'm not too sure though. If they are, and if they too also fit, I might grab those too.
Putting the bushing in the sway bar is another thing I'm wondering about. Doesn't seem like it'll be easy. And cutting the bushing seems to kill the point of having one.

duh someone did it already? heh. well I guess so, but I didn't see a DIY so I wasn't sure.
haven't really been a regular at the site anymore.
thats good then, I dont need to do a DIY, and now I know its possible for sure. heh.
yeah I'm going for the base's... I think the type-s has the same thickness in the rear sway though. they're both 19 mm.

The stock endlinks work fine, sicsol did it a few weeks back. As far as the 22mm sway bar, I am gonna try both of them just for a comparo, but I am sticking with the 19mm. My dad ordered the rsx-r sway bar for his type s, should be here by may, so I am gonna steal if and try it, then take his old sway bar and mount it on mine for good. As far as rsx base and type s, they have identical rear sway bars, both are 19mm, check the part numbers on them. Anyways, I'll let you all know in a month or so. Peace
Hi,
I did do this a couple of weeks back. It is a piece of cake (about a half hour of your time). I posted the part numbers a while back, but can't remember what they are. But any acura dealer can help you with this and they can order the parts for you. The parts that are needed are the swaybar (19mm), 2 rubber mount bushings, and 2 rubber mount brackets. The stock endlinks are the same as the RSX's, so they work just fine.
If you check out my members page I have a pick posted of the bar installed.

If the rsx rear sway bar is a direct bolt on...then can we put on the rsx rear discs?...that's what i'd like to do...the drums look nasty on our cars and the ex sedan needs some more stopping power
hmm, if it definitely fits i should pick one up... 19mm is fine for daily driving, i'd be very wary of driving a FWD'er with a 22mm rear, that'd be really twitchy and could oversteer too much in panicky maneuvers on the street
<< yes but then you'd have to convert to 5 lugs... >>
I'd actually like to convert to five lug.....
In fact I have a set of Motegi MR-8's with BF Goodrich Scorcher T/A's on them sitting at my house. They are five lug.
Definitly need better brakes. Does anyone know what would need to be down to covert to the front and rear brakes of an RSX, also are the front brakes on the RSX bigger then civic ones.
Mine are already starting to glaze from traffic surfing. Fade is getting bad.
