Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
wassup guys, looking into some Sounds and am pretty much on a budget....this is what i was looking at what do you guys think? i have a 2001 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan,
Deck: http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KDC-MP...6317042&sr=8-3
Amp: http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KAC-72...6317042&sr=8-1
Sub: http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KFC-W3...6317565&sr=1-1
if i get this i don't know what box i should get.
(or a 12" JL Sub from a friend for $80 in box. don't know what the specs are tho)
just looking for some decent sounds... feel free to make suggestions. looking at a $350-$400 Budget because i was gonna take it to a shop to install and they're quoting me about $175.
My Car is Pre-wired as well. when i bought it it had a JVC Deck with AMP wires running into the trunk with audio wires stashed behind the deck. was going to just have a shop run brand new wires through cause they said about $175 regardless they use the old wires or new wires...that is the total for all Deck, Amp and Sub. let me know y'alls Input pls.
Thanks!

As for the head unit, just cut off the JVC harness and match up the wires the harness the kenwood harness, typically just matching colors.
Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
havent really worked with sounds. but it'll prolly be easier when i have the stuff and am actually tryna do it. the wires that are stashed behind the deck looked like audio wires that run to the amp or sub im guessing...where ever they run to. where is the ground wire located? from where does it come from? the fuse looks good and the power wire lookes thick. about half incg to a inch thick not sure if its 4 gauge. do you guys think i should replace my mids? i know they are alpine speakers. don't know what kind but they still sound pretty sharp. so im guessing that the merchandise i posted is pretty decent? would i be able to amp my mids with the amp i selected? or would it sound alright with just the sub amped?

AMP-----power wire and ground wire
----------Turn on wire typically blue from head unit (see if a thin blue wire is near the power wire in the trunk.
---------- RCA from head unit
Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
okay, so i got it down on installing the sounds...
AMP Power from Battery to Amp.
Amp Remote from Deck to Amp.
RCA from Deck to Amp
Ground from Amp to desired Ground Spot
Sub to Amp - & +.
so i tore apart my car to see what wires i actually had....
i had 4 Guage Power Wire from battery to trunk.(End is Cut off in trunk)
blue remote wire from Deck "Area" to Trunk. (Unused at the moment)
2 RCA Wires (2 different sets) (will prolly only be using one)
the thing that is throwing me off is in the trunk i have what looks to be 3 Different Power Wires....4 Guage Red and 2 8 Guage Black. i'm guessing that whoever had the car before me mighta had a couple amps....or maybe the black 8 guages are his grounds? they arent running with the rest of the wires...and they're not on the other side either. should i just pull thes out? or simply ignore them?
also along with the blue remote wire there 8 what look like regular Speaker Wires both ends are cut off in deck area and in trunk. should i just pull these out as well?
Will This Setup work for my sounds?
-Red 4 Guage from Batter To Amp.
-Blue Remote from Deck "Amp Remote" to Amp.
-RCA from Deck to AMP
-Ground from AMP to Car Frame
-Sub + & - to Amp + & -
Getting rid of or ignoring Speaker Wires and 2 8 Guage black wires that are also there...
also should i bolt the amp to the box? i have a cargo trunk liner should i just bolt the amp to the trunk floor under the liner? and ideas?? thanks for the help guys

Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
so do you guys think that i should just pull those extra "8 speaker wires" and extra 2 "8 gauge" power wires out? one thing i was going to do was re-wire the RCA wires. they're on the same side as the power wire. so i am going to be re-routing them either down in the middle below the shifter or possibly all the way on the other side (passenger side). another thing is the Power Wire in the trunk is just a Clean cut end. will i be able to strip the wire and use it? or should i buy a Ring or Spade Terminal for it?

The black wires were prob for the ground from the amp to a ground spot, just reuse them.
As for connecting wires to the amp depending on the amp you can strip the wires and plug them into the amp directly and screw down a post on the amp to hold it. I would check behind the radio to see if you see the blue wire so you can connect it to the radio's turn on.
The speaker wires you see were prob from a 4 channel amp and was run back to the radio for sound for the speakers, if you are only adding bass then you will not need the speaker wires.
As for the deck in there now does it work? and can you hear all the speakers working?
Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
Thanks Civicpapi,
all my speakers work, everything is fine. just looking to upgrade and add some base. wasnt thinking of amping mids.
yah, so the Extra Speaker wires are un-used. not connected to anything in the trunk or behind the deck.
as for the remote wire it is unused at the moment as well. not connected in the trunk nor behind the deck. i didnt see the extra wire for it when i was looking at the deck. but it has to be there i guess.
i have a JVC deck, and it only has 1 Red RCA and 1 White RCA. so would this setup work? i just have a few more general ICE questions if you don't mind. wanna learn it all completely.
as for my setup...
*Power from Batt to Amp.
*Blue Remote from Deck to Amp
*Red & White RCA from Deck to Amp
*Ground from Amp to Frame
if it's a 2 channel amp and i only have one sub it would be like this right?
{-} { } {+} { }
and say i used 2 10's it would go like this right?
Sub 1: X Sub 2: O
{X-} {X+} {O-} {O+}
As for Amping Mids....
is it the same as Amping Subs? Speaker - to amp - and speaker + to amp +?
can i connect say all for wires from rear speakers to the same channel? for example 1 12" Sub and 2 Rear Mid....
Sub: X
Rear Left: OL
Rear Right: OR
so it'd be like this....
{X-} {X+} {OL-/OR-} {OL+/OR+}
or will this not work good?
Also, having 2 Amps...
are you required to have 2 Power Wires? 1 for each amp?
do you think i should amp the mids with 1 12" or 2 10's?
will there be too much base that it wont sound good?
Finally...since i havent gotten the 1 12" Sub from my friend. (waiting to get it b4 i buy amp so i know the specs)
do they work like this....
1 12" Sub= 800 watts. so i buy a mono Amp of 800watts. (no mids)
1 12" Sub=800 watts. so i buy a 2 channel 1200watt amp (splitting 600watts each for sub and mids)
if i buy 2 10" Subs that equal 600Watts each, i buy a 2 channel amp that equals 1200 Watts (Mids not included) splitting it 600watts per sub.
or would it be better to not max it out and buy like 200 watts lower? like this...
1 12" Sub 800watts- Buy Mono Amp 600watts. (No Mids)
1 12" Sub 800watts- Buy 2 Channel Amp with 1200 Watts (splitting 600watts for sub and mids)
2 10's 600 watts each- Buy 1000 watt 2 channel and split 500watts per sub?
aight man, this should be all of the questions. i appreciate it!

That deck is only set up for one amp them, so you will have to make up your mind if you want to keep it, or updgarde to a deck with 2 sets of pre amps,
and say i used 2 10's it would go like this right?
Sub 1: X Sub 2: O
{X-} {X+} {O-} {O+}
too confusing for me to figure that out, if go with one amp at first then just make sure the subs are either 2 ohms or 4 ohms, tyically 2 ohms are higher powered, just match them to your amp, or just buy a loaded box and match the ratings to the amp
As for Amping Mids....
is it the same as Amping Subs? Speaker - to amp - and speaker + to amp +?

overall you can have 2 amps, 1 amp say 4 channels to run your speakers, and another just for the sub typically a 1 channel with high power
Also, having 2 Amps...
are you required to have 2 Power Wires? 1 for each amp?
since you have 4 gauge wire from the battery then you can split it at the amp (I forgot the term for the splitter looks like a little box with with one lead from the battery and then 2 outputs to hook wires to each amp) and then run 2 wires fromt he splitter to each amp and then ground each amp
do you think i should amp the mids with 1 12" or 2 10's?
will there be too much base that it wont sound good?
2 10's would be fine as long as you have good power
Finally...since i havent gotten the 1 12" Sub from my friend. (waiting to get it b4 i buy amp so i know the specs)

I will answer all above, typically the ratings for the subs are overall power capacity, just get a good high powered mono amp match the ohms to the subs or sub box and you should be good to go, with the hondas do not go too much do not want to drain the alternator, say a quality alpine, keenwood, fosgate amp will do, maybe 500 RMS
aight man, this should be all of the questions. i appreciate it!

aight. I know a lil what u mean. could you help me understand the ohms part? as for the diagram it was supposed to be the neg and pos speaker/sub part. was wondering if I could wire 2 wires to the same terminal for mids. but u answered it. just needa understand the ohms part then and the whole matchin subs, boxes and amps please.

If you have a box that your friend gave you with subs you need to know what ohms it is wired in, typically it will be 2 ohms or 4 ohms. The amp then has to be matching some 2 channel amps are bridgeable to 2 ohms meaning is you wire from the amp according to manual in 2 ohms that will be 2 wires positive and a negative to the sub box.
Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
okay...after doing some more research and looking at my car wires....those 2 black wires are ground wires. both grounded to the same bolt. the power cable is missing a fuse. does anyone know what type of fuse i would need?

Re: Need Opinions One My Desired I.C.E
If you have 1 amp then you will only need 1 ground. As for the fuse you will need a rating comparable to the amps fuse. Say the amp has 2 40 amps fuses then the Main Fuse would be like 80 amps.
