Building my 99 LX w/ a d16

I have a 99 LX with a D16Y7. All I have done is put in a cold air intake. I have this need to brake 300 hp or close to it. My only few problems are Iam a Marine with a small paycheck and I know little to nothing about building. If anyone has any words of advise for me I would be happy to hear them. My big question befor a get started is that I keep reading the big fight about D to B motors. If iam never going to go over 300 hp would my D16 work? Cant wait for the advise!

Your not going to get 300 hp with the d series...especially a d16y7. Hate to break it to you but getting significant hp gains is going to cost you a pretty penny. People recommend the d series to b series engine swap because its the easiest swap to do out there and it yields you the most bang for your buck. The b series has more potential than the d series. Bolt ons will do nothing for you other than frustrate you. Best thing to do seriously is save up for a b series engine. Build it up and drop it in your LX. There is a ton of info and tutorials for a DIY on the swap or you can pay a local shop to do it.

I am by no means an expert at swaps, but I do know whatever b-series you go with you'll need a b-series tranny and ecu. You can re-use the original motor mounts though. The biggest headache will be the wiring.

To get serious gains with a b-series engine, you need to build it up, internals and the usual bolt-ons like a cold air intake, headers, ect. After that you would need to go F/I, either supercharger or turbo. IMO a turbo will yield you greater results.
