How big is too big? (Rims)

I don't want any rubbing at all, what are the biggest sized rims I can fit? I've been looking at 16's but they're too small for me.. I don't want any rubbing and I don't want to have a heart attack everytime I hit a pothole, could I fit 17's and keep this peace of mind?

Re: How big is too big? (Rims)

17 is about the max as far as the rim looking decent on the car... Above that, the civic just looks .. bad. 17's will not rub if you put the right tire on. Something like a P215/40 or 45 will do ok.
