Is the civic SI right for me?
Is the civic SI right for me?
I'm new to these forums but might be more active but i dont know just yet. I'm really looking into a 2000 Honda civic SI. I was wondering how the performance of this car is. STOCK. If maintained well, about how long will it last? I was a bmw person but its just too much trouble with it having so many problems. I just got sick of it, expensive also.
Also wanted to know how the drive of the car itself is on a scale of 1-10. even though its just a persons opinion it would help a lot! And any civic owners here had any problems with their SI? What i mean is that is there really any BIG problem with this type and model of the civic? I could get one for around $6500 with 136k miles on it. Is 136k miles a lot for this car?

It depends what kind of mind set you have. It's a subjective like you said. I rate my car at a 9 because It's easy to work on, fun to drive, reliable, and comfortable. There is a huge aftermarket and parts are cheap and high quality. If I were forced to buy a more expensive car, it would either be a Mazda, Subaru, or maybe even a 99-00 civic SI.
As for the SI, a lot of people buy the car and then botch it up. The car looks fantastic stock and that's how you will keep its value up. Dealerships sticker price is easily 10k if it looks like below. Does yours come with stock aluminum wheels? Those are some of the nicest looking wheels out there if you ask me. 136k is not a lot, but it depends how the person took care of it. It's a big plus if it was garage kept. You have to make sure the timing belt, belts and water pump have been changed. They were due at 110k.
Here's a bunch of reviews on the 2000 SI. Select 2 dr SI coupe in the menu.

only big problem is it will prolly get stolen pretty quick. its the most stolen civic ever made. but in stock form its really nice, you can even strip the car down a bit so it looks like an EX. it has a great engine and even a few small mods like supercharger will put you over 200 whp.

SI only comes in red, black, blue. the EX does not come in (electron) blue so thats a dead giveaway of a real SI. the red and black you can disguise by pulling off the lip kit, changing rims to either ex hubs or aftermarket, and stripping the SI badges.
Re: Is the civic SI right for me?
The 6th gen Si is a great car. Anyone who is used to driving something with V6 power will be a little underwhelmed with the power but if you're used to driving a Civic DX you'll probably like it a lot.
Of course it's got reliability, being a Honda, but that's no certainty as with any car that's nearly 10 years old. I've had an 8th gen Si, which was obviously more powerful, but a bit heavier too and I loved that car if it weren't for needing a truck as well as a gas sipper.

There about 160 hp stock
and yes it should last u a long time being a honda but it is an si so most likely its been drivin hard
oh and i think its stupid to take an si and make it look like a ex because of fear of it getting stolen u could always install a: Car alarm, low jack, kill switch, and or nsd numbers.
