Starting a search for a used Civic, need help.

Man, used car shopping is a NIGHTMARE. I wish I could afford a new car, new car shopping seems much more simpler and you don't have to worry about buying a previous owner's problem.

Ok, my budget is $6000 max. I want a Honda Civic, color doesn't matter, I'd slightly prefer 2D over 4D, but that doesnt matter much. What kinda mileage and model should I be looking for to get the most out of my money? What do you guys think of a 2003 CIVIC EX 2D with 150k miles versus a 1997 Civic EX 2D with 80k miles? Actually, just answering that for me would be a great help for me.

And how many miles is too many? I've heard Civics can 250k miles easily if they are properly maintained. Is this true for all models?

Is there a big difference, performance-wise, between a 98 model and a 2004 model? Or is the only real difference looks. Thanks guys if you can help me out.

try to find a car that has been driven about 10k per year. a car with low miles is likely to have more problems than one driven regularly. but excessive miles arent great either, altho its still better than lo miles. i would take the 03 civic with 150k over the other one. but thats still alot of miles. if the 97 had around 110k i would go for that instead.
