Wiring for new speakers
Wiring for new speakers
Hey all,
I'm now installing my new stereo system, and I have to run my own speaker wire due to the wattage I will be using. But does anyone have any tips on how I can do that with the front doors? (I have a 98 DX coupe). I have no way of putting my hand in past all the A/C stuff to get the wire to pass through to the door's rubber boot. Any suggestions? (I would prefer not to have to remove too much hardware or even my door!).

Re: Wiring for new speakers
I just hopped it across the gap in mine
It looks like ****, but oh well
I tried getting it though in that grommet but that wasn't going to happen, it's quite inaccessible

Re: Wiring for new speakers
I'd be interested to know what they would do if you had it "professionally" installed at Best Buy or a car audio place. The only thing I can think of is maybe putting a grommet or some kind of sleeve over the wire so it looks less trashy
Re: Wiring for new speakers
They make a product, I believe they are called Jamb-tac, but I don't remember. It is a set of contact plates you mount to your door and the door jam, and wire your speakers, etc to them, and when the door closes, it makes contact and everything works. The obvious downside is the fact that when the door is open, the speakers wont work. I think Summit is where I saw those.

Re: Wiring for new speakers
What I ended up doing is removing the plastic molding on the inside and then drilling a hole to the outside just above the lower car hinge (on both doors). I then drilled a hole below the doors rubber boot (for the other wiring). I bought some grommets and placed them in all the holes. I took my wire and double-wrapped it in electrical tape to protect it from any sharp edges and weathering and I ran it through. But I did, however, need to remove both of my doors to make most of this possible so it was not something I did by myself, I needed help. And those doors were a pain to get back on (we're talking three grown men to hold it and line it up so that the door bolts are aligned and don't strip when putting them back in. Thanks for everyone's help and ideas!
