Civic Transmissions
Just a couple quick questions... my transmission for my 2002 Civic is failing, the carrier bearing is going out on it.. and I have rought 112000 miles on it. I have been looking for used transmission and I have a couple questions.
With my EX, I can use the EX manual transmission. but can I use one from a base model civic? hx/dx/lx? and does it be from a vtec civic?
Also, I'm on car-parts.com looking for used transmission, would you recommend just getting mine rebuilt, or just opting for a used unit?
Just looking on any pointers and a little help.
Thanks, Nate

Re: Civic Transmissions
You can use a 2001-2005 civic ex/lx/dx/hx. Doesnt matter which. The gear ratios are different though. I would recommend a 2004-2005. Better transmissions. Ex is more aggressive than the rest.
Re: Civic Transmissions
If you have the means to do the rebuild yourself, or with the help of a shop I would do it that way. I just got done doing it that way and it worked out rather well. Rebuilding the trans requires a lot of tools, but as for actually rebuilding it, its just like legos. They only fit together one way, just look at a picture and put it together like the picture and you'll be fine. Now the tools, you will need a press, no questions about it. Other than that, just a torque wrench and socket set.
