94 Civic Si - Wipers ALWAYS ON!!
94 Civic Si - Wipers ALWAYS ON!!
My g/f's Civic has had a few issues that have stemmed from a leaky windshield. The car alarm would randomly go off and sound. So pulling the fuses and eventually cutting the alarm horn out, I figured I'd just un-install the alarm. When I finally found the alarm brain (that was neatly tucked up almost behind the speedometer cluster, nice work who ever did it) I noticed that the wire harness was all green with corrosion. With everything all buttoned up, and NOW knowing why there has always been a wet spot on the drivers side floor, things were fine. I parked my truck in the garage 2 nights ago and her Civic stayed outside for a few nights, usually she parks in the garage. So after a few heavy nights of rain, as she's driving to work, she puts her wipers on for the morning commute to work in the rain. On her way home, her wipers are going even though the wiper switch on the stick is "off".
When I got home from work tonight I crawled under the dash and poked around. With the keys in and ignition "on", and with the wipers in the "off" position, the wipers would engage similar to the "low" setting. Her Civic has 4 settings off / intermittent / low / high. In the "off" position they are quick. The rest of the settings work.
I heard a "click" buy the interior fuse box every time the wipers would engage, so I felt around. I found that there is a large white relay on the back side of the fuse box. I pulled the wire harness and the wipers stopped. FIXED IT...kinda!!
The wipers now only have the low and high setting. The intermittent setting no longer works. Also, while this new "phantom wiper" syndrome started, the "you left your lights on / you left your keys in the ignition" chime would also sound........with the lights off and no keys in the ignition. It would sound only when the drivers door was opened. It really sounds like there is some water damage to the electrical system under the dash and this weekend I'll be putting silicone on the windshield surround to prevent any further water leaking in.
So my question is, have I temporary solved the issue by just pulling that wire harness? Everything else seems to operate correctly (ie: sun roof, cruise, power mirrors.....)
I found a picture from a member here parting out a 95. 'IMG_0663.jpg?t=1240439096'
This is what I unplugged. Can I buy a replacement? and if so, how does it come off the fuse box?
Thanks in advance guys/gals!!!

Re: 94 Civic Si - Wipers ALWAYS ON!!
its possible the wiper switch itself is sticking. happened on our 92 accord and we just dont use the intermittent setting. sometimes it doesnt work and we have to turn it to hi for any action. so it may be its stuck or something.
