quoted 3000$ to replace stock engine and auto tranny

i just want your guys input on this. i recently contacted a local garage that specialzes in honda and they told me (my car is a 2002) for a 2003 engine(around 100,000kms///60,000 miles) + auto tranny with a 1yr//20,000kms warranty is 1700$ + install im looking at around 2800 after tax. (canadian $$)

is that a fair price? i wouldnt mind dishing some extra cash for a diff swap rather than go back to stock, but is there anything i can get swapped for up to 4k..ish?

Damn, find an engine and trans on the forums for a fraction of that cost. I saw an engine and auto trans on here for 170 bucks today. Do the math. Thats 10 percent of what the shop wants you to pay.

engines normally go for 600 max, trans maybe 500 for a used one. the labor is gonna be what costs you. idk, $3k almost sounds fair, but its a bit high.
