Someone with swapping experience please help!! (Not for 2k1 Civic)
I'm going to be buying a used '93 del sol si, basically same engine as ours but no vtec.. If it's possible, I am going to buy a GSR motor and do a swap. I think it's a B18C1. Can someone who has done a swap before help me out with different info, like what else I would need and what kind of transmission I need, etc... I'm new to the motor swapping thing and I'd rather ask questions like an idiot on here than to my car guy. Thanks in advance anybody that can help me!
You should probably learn more about motor swaps before you acutally do one. There are many choices, and anyone will fit its just a question of if it is a bolt-in or a welding job. http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/ that is a site you should start with. BTW it is just B18C, and only one with numbers is the B18C5 I belive, I may be wrong.
no he's right, GS-R engine is B18C1...Type R is B18C5...just a heads up by the way...It's not my opinion and I have never done an engine swap, but some people who have worked with Del Sols think they're too heavy...I think they weigh a little less than 2,500 lbs...I don't know, personally, I don't think that's heavy, but I guess some people see that some Civics are much lighter...just to let you know what I've heard and read...like I said, I've never done it myself

A really good source of info would be www.honda-tech.com. They've got specific forums for Civics, Del Sols, and a Hybrid forum. It's a web board very similar to this one, and a really good place to get info on anything Honda/Acura.
CRX! CRX! CRX! (or third generation hatch!) <-- I have a third generation hatch. A B18C barely fits in it. I've asked around. not bad for a 2090 lbs car. And it is just as quick as 99-00 SI and a lot faster than our cars. I've driven it a couple times before the belt went bad and the water pump does not its job. Stock its a lot quicker than my car is now. And to think I got this car from my aunt for free and my aunt barely revved past 3K rpms. Its tach maxes out at 7k and is a 1987 Si hatchback - pre-CRX body style. Too bad I want a 5th gen hatchback. Unless I find my GSX or 2.5RS. I'm not leaving the site. My dad wants my car. He is just scared of driving stick, like I was in the beginning. I just love the way the 7th gen coupes look.
I don't see a problem with the gsr motor fitting since the del sol vtec has comes with a b16 motor. I believe all the b-series motors use the same motor mounts and stuff, so it shouldn't be too difficult to do the swap...
haha.. i cant stand the boxy look, and imo the hatch civs are just plain ugly. I narrowed it down to the B18C1 motor (96-01 GSR) or the B16A3 engine that pumps out 10 hp less and was put in the VTEC del sols and also identical in the 99-00 Si's. The B16 would be about a grand cheaper, which would help me save some leftover for the turbo! The only B18C1 motor I could find had 64,000 miles on it, so I might go with the B16. Thanks for the input everybody..and those sites really helped my decision. Hopefully I'tll work out and I'll post some pics as the progress goes. Later
