*Update with Story & Pics* Canyon Run Day 9/9/2008
Hey guys I have a day off tomorrow, so i decided that im gonna do a couple canyon runs(ACH, GMR, Turnbull) If anybody wants to come let me know, cause im gonna be leaving early!!!
*Update*
Wow!!..... is all I can say. It was probably one of my most memorable and enjoyable days ever. I did have my stupid moments though lol. First stupid thing, I forgot to charge my camera battery the night before
, so I was only able to take pics on ACH
. The camera battery died after getting down from ACH. Secondly, being the dumbass i sometimes can be, I went up ACH with less than 1/4 a tank of gas
. I knew I should have poured some gas before I went up, but I guess I was so excited that I totally forgot. On my way up, I was fine. But going down, my empty light was on the whole way. So when I was going down, I was just coasting, and when I came to an uphill climb, I would put the car in gear, than put it in neutral and let it coast again
I did make it all the way down without running out of gas though
.
The first canyon run I did today was ACH(Angeles Crest Highway). I went there first, because it was the furthest of the three. Man, the whole road was deserted. I was like the only person going up there today!!!!! No traffic, no cops!!!! It was a nice and cool day with a little breeze. I was gunning it all the way to Newcomb Ranch(65-75 mph). It was greattt!!!! Had my windows all the way down, wind flowing through my hair, radio off, just listening to the engine while I was mashing through the gears
. I stopped at Newcomb Ranch to get a bite to eat, since it was getting close to lunch time. Ordered the chicken soft tacos with a side of guacamole and a gatorade to wash it all down
. Took some pics after lunch, and then headed up more. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it all the way up to where the 2 tunnels and the San Gabriel Canyon Road turn-off is, because they closed the road about 3 miles after Mt. Waterman(I guess because Caltrans was cleaning up some large boulders and debris that fell onto the road). So, I turned around and headed back down to la canada flintridge. That's when I started to go picture crazy. About every turn-off I came to, I stopped and just started snapping pics of the car, and the scenery in the area
. Then my warning light for the gas came on, so I went all the way down without stopping anymore. I was about to pull into the Shell Station where ACH starts, but they were closed due to repairs
, so I went to the 76 Station on the other side of the street, and poured 3/4 tank of gas. Then I got on the 210 east, and headed for my next canyon run.
The second canyon run i did was GMR(Glendora Mountain Road). If you thought ACH was fun, wait till you get to this road!!!!! This road has some amazing curves, twisties, and switchbacks. There really isn't any straights up here, just one small section to speed up. It's all about the corners, and there are more than you or I can count. It isn't long, compared to ACH, but because of the amount of curves and slow speeds you will go, it does take a little longer to finish. Again, It was the perfect day to go!! No traffic and especially no cops!!! I think I actually enjoyed GMR more than ACH, because GMR was non stop with the curves, while ACH had it's lulls. The weather was the same as in ACH, so it was nice and cool. I got all the way up to East Fork Rd., then I turned around and headed back down GMR. I got on the 57 south and then 60 west to my last canyon run of the day.
The last canyon run I did was Turnbull Canyon Road. Three words can describe this run: "NOT WORTH IT!!!
". Lets see, there was lots of traffic, a couple cops patrolling the road, and did I mention the traffic
. But yeah, if there wasn't traffic and cops around, it would be a decent run. But not today
So after Turnbull, I got on the 605 south and headed home.
As always, I was stuck in traffic on the 605
. It took me about an hour and 15 min. to get home
. When I got home, took a small nap, and woke up and started editing the pics, and typing this post.
Next week on Tuesday, I'll be heading out to the Malibu area to do some more canyon runs(Mulholland Hwy. & Latigo Canyon Rd.) If anyone wants to come, just pm me and let me know so I can set up a place to meet up, and caravan there
And Now Pics I Took Today:

Hmm, I'd like to. I have to think about it. I just got new tires.. and I'm still waiting on my SPC camber kits from truehonda and the guy there isn't responding
. No word on when they'll arrive.. and I haven't done my darn alignments yet ..just waiting 'til I install the camber kits. The car is sitting on the lot for now. Not really driving it much.

i know this shop in garden grove, but the guy actually has to drive your car to some mysterious location. 4 wheel alignment with printout is 60 or 65 bucks. I've been very content with their work, but I think my car is unbalanced and i want the front to be a little lower so I might fork over the money to redo an alignment (i just got one last month)
btw, places like firestone, just tires, will not accept low cars with lip/body kits.
so count me in as the 4th car.
