Seafoam: Yes or no?
Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
ive been wanting to do this on my fiance's 2000 contour.. friend said to use a vaccum from the intake and let the engine suck some liquid out of the can for 3 sec at a time. should smoke a bit, but thats the carbon burning out. use the throttle under the hoor to keep the engine runnin as it will bog it down a bit.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
While I love LC, seafoam seems to be working really well for people. Go watch vid above and read link. I wonder if you are doing more harm than good clearing out carbon on a 100k+ engine...
Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
I had good results with it... didnt hurt anything at all. Car seemed to run a little better afterward. For like 5 bucks, whats the big deal. It won't hurt anything. Even if it doesn't do much for you, its $5. I'm pretty sure we've all wasted way more than that on our cars.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
well thats the thing, alot of people have ruined their motors using it. so its not just a wasted $5, but a car that cant drive anymore.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broke."
You already get 42 mpg. Sometimes these products that kill carbon build-up actually harm your engine if there is no carbon build-up. The reason being is that if carbon build-up is a little mild, it will attack the next thing - your gaskets, and thus weakening your gasket seals.
I get 32 mpg and I have no idea why.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
mine had about 75.5k when i did it. didnt hurt my engine at all. i just took it apart to replace the head gasket. everything looked pretty clean for 80k and about 2k of boost. that stuff cant hurt your engine if you follow instructions. its a hydrocarbon based chemical, just like gasoline. i dont know about other carbon cleaning products but seafoam is fine. you do whatever you want, but it worked for me and a ton of other people. unless there is something already seriously wrong with your engine, i find it hard to believe that it would hurt it.

2) unless you drive with no AC, with the windows up and keep the revs under 2.5k, theres no way you get 32mpg.
3) seafoam doesnt anything that can "attack". it loosens carbon buildup, so that your motor can expel it.
4) i put seafoam in my F4i, and nothing really happened. it didnt really make it run any better though. i say, if you feel like trying it, go ahead. it's probably not going to do anything. i put it in a 600cc motor that revs up to 14k and didnt really notice anything.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
im sorry, but i cant believe that. how fast do you drive on the highway? you MIGHT get 38mpg going 50-55. i get around 30 in the city, cuz i keep the revs under 2k and roll the windows down. and in m first post i meant 32 city btw. i actually get better mileage in the city cuz i always haul *** on the highway cuz im impatient. lol.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
well maybe i was a little rash on the 32mpg claim. w/e. everyone gets different actual mileage cuz of different driving styles. ^it doesnt hurt that you have a stock DX as well. the motor is restricted more, so it probably gets better mileage than an EX.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
I don't know how much this contrimutes, but I inflate my tires to 38 psi. I've had them at 44 but the car has a tendancy to hop over imperfections. I theorize that setting psi too high may decrease mileage due to the slip/hop. 35-38 imo (if you have 44psi max pressure tires)

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
nah man, about 70-72mph. i used to commute from cleveland to columbus twice a week. pretty much always 38mpg, a few 40s, and then the one time of 41. even beating on my car and redlining it a ton, i still average 33mpg mixed city/highway. 35psi in my tires at all times.
Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
Civics, for whatever reason, seem to be pretty economic at 70mph. And I notice that it really trains the ECU to make the car peppy. I normally do 65, but it doesn't train the car to be nearly as peppy. Maybe carbon deposits have something to do with this? Maybe it's good to run your car at 70 for a semi-long trip.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
yes. i sea foam my car every 30k miles. it doesnt give you a CEL code if u use the newer seafoam.....and it really cleans out ur car if you do it right.
its really interesting to see the anti seafoam mentality on this forum... most other forum (like my old v6p.net) are very pro seafoam...
i personally think its great.
this was my vid.

Re: Seafoam: Yes or no?
by restricted more, i mean that the exhaust system doesnt flow as well due to smaller diameter pipes. w/e, the point of the thread is seafoam and i dont think it really does anything. unless the valves on the "deathtrap" (my bike's name
) were pretty clean to begin with.
