89 civic sedan brake help.

i just bought an 89 civic for 600 bucks, but the brakes sink all the way to the floor. it still stops, just takes a while. could some one tell me if maybe just flushing and bleeding the system, or maybe replacing the master brake cylinder would help?

Re: 89 civic sedan brake help.

Before you run into a tree, or a pedestrian. Compare everything to the specs, pads/shoes, rotors/drums, if it within spec OK, if not replace it. Bleed the brakes if the bleeders are not frozen. This will get air out of the system, and fresh moisture free fluid into it. I wouldn't jump to the master cylinder until you have checked all of the above.
