Re: 1982 honda civic swap
If you had an '84-'87 I'd say go for it. But if you aren't really looking for horsepower, do a compression test on the '82 and see what the compression looks like. Sounds to me like worn rings. Is the smoke blue? Rebuild it if you really like your '82,and are REALLY sentimental about it.
Otherwise I'd save the loot, buy a good chassis (no motor or blown even better)civic 92-95 so you can stay in OBD1 and swap to the new civic.Easy as it gets.
92-95 has so much OEM and aftermarket support it's not even funny.
Those 'ol 82's are carbureted and you will have to nothing short of a shitload of wiring updates.Engine, chassis,ECU,the works.
Sell parts off the wrecked '95 get your loot up, help out some other folks out with parts they need, and in the meantime keep your eyes peeled for that perfect chassis.
Heck you might even find the same type '95, and have all you need.
Another idea, if you don't like that,if your frontal damage isn't a total loss, you can have the radiator core support changed out,if the damage hasn't comprimised the unibody or frame. But can be costly.
Hope you find your path,
Let me know if I can help,
peace,Brad
