how long do coilovers last
how long do coilovers last without blowing if my freeways are pretty uneven and bumpy and I have to go through a lot of dips and bumps and what not?
Car is lowered with 1 finger in the front and no fingers in the rear.
i'm on tein basics.
PS I'm asking because within 3 weeks I have noticed that my car feels a little bit softer... or is it because I'm getting used to it?

Re: how long do coilovers last
yeah i meant normal shocks like oem replacements you just replace. it would cost the same to charge them or whatever as just getting new ones. and 50k miles is about 4 years of driving normally? how much do you drive a year?

Coliovers last exactly 2 years, 5 months, 6 days, 10 hours, 42 minutes, and 25 seconds. So subtract 3 weeks from your total, and expect to buy new ones then.

Re: how long do coilovers last
so should i avoid bumpy roads or bumpy lanes on the freeway - would that help prolong the life?
if i regas them, don't I have to un install them and reinstall them?
is it true that the lower my car is the softer it feels?

Re: how long do coilovers last
Heh, that's funny stuff.
I've been rollin on Tein basics for like Damn, i donno..... 40 thousand give or take, and I don't think any performance has changed.
If you say that you're feeling a softer ride, I'm thinking it's because you're getting used to it. Maybe when my Tein's blow out it'll give me a reason to get better ones.

Re: how long do coilovers last
I'm not an expert, but I don't think that avoiding bumps will make them last longer. maybe by a tiny amount, but nothing huge.
yes, when you get them refurbished, you'll have to take them out and send them to Tein. Or i guess you could drive there, I wonder if they'll take them out for you. I donno.
I disagree, the lower i put my car, the bumpier the ride is to me. I believe that's because when you're slammed, you're riding more on the shock, and when you're up you're more on the spring. When I looked at my coils when they were dropped, it was like completely compressed.

Re: how long do coilovers last
82,000k on my car and just replaced my struts for koni yellows. I was dropped for 3 years 1.3inches and only the passenger front blew but I could tell the rest were on their way out as any big bump the car felt like it was going to break. I love the ride though. I could have probably lived with tokico blues but bought the konis from a friend for cheap.

Re: how long do coilovers last
60k is the suggested interval, but unless you feel an overly bumpy ride, have cupping or feathering on your tires or can visibly see oil leaking out of the shocks, it's time for new ones. ive seen cars come into my shop with 100k+ with perfectly good shocks. ive also seen cars with 20k needing new shocks. avoiding sudden braking, keeping your tires balanced and avoiding anything that will bottom out the strut will increase the lifespan of your coilovers.

Re: how long do coilovers last
in my opinion, there isnt. they both do the same job, but in the automotive industry, it helps identify parts a little easier. shocks normally sit outside of the spring. if youve ever followed behind a truck you can usually see the shocks bolted to the rear axle housing, where as with our cars, the struts sit inside the spring and are put together as a unit outside of the car because the spring perch is part of the shock body, making it a strut.

Re: how long do coilovers last
i dont know..exactly how many threads. but its pretty low but can go a lot lower..

the rear is actually a little bit lower than that picture now, i just readjusted it to match the other side (they werent really 100% even height.. though i dont think they are now but it's close enough...)
so basically 1 tight asian finger in the front and no finger in the rear. amazingly enough the rear fenders aren't even rolled but i havent heard any rubbing yet either...
but boy, am i so happy to be at this height - the ugly gap the S techs gave me are a thing of the past. I'm used to the harsher ride anyways and nicely paved streets feel like heaven, though the numbers of integras that want to race me have soared...

lol....i think you should max it out..tucking
i think mine is lower then yours a bit. i have about 3 threads left at the front, and about 15 in the rear.

Re: how long do coilovers last
i have to go through speed bumps and dips, i've hit my front lip several times and amazingly havent cracked. I wish I could go lower but with my crappy city streets and poor driving skills, my current stance is as low as i can probably go. I'm cautious about wearing our the coilovers too quickly and cracking my lip. My rear fenders arent even rolled and im amazed how they havent rubbed or anything.
