95 civic ex...question about smoke coming from muffler
i have a 1995 honda civic ex and when i hit the gas. smoke comes out of the muffler. also it is black inside the muffler when i go to wash the car. Is there anything i can put in my car like a cleaner or something like that, that will lessen the smoke or not make it black? any help is appreciated. thanks
An easy test to see is to try reving the car up while in neutral, and sitting still. Make sure the car is up to normal operating temp. Look at the color of the smoke
. If it has a real "blueish" color to it your problem may be worn rings.
(a friend can easily help you do this)
PS-How many miles does the motor have on it???
Is it using oil??? A little or a lot, tell me a little more.
Let me know, I'll try to give some tips if your stuck.
Peace,
B

Re: 95 civic ex...question about smoke coming from muffler
I've had that problem before. Smokes like crazy. My car was burning oil (white/blue smoke)...just like what civicintwo said. So check your oil and keep track of it. If you're losing oil (say more than 1 quart every 400 miles), then yep, you car's burning oil. Could be the rings, or anything else. I put a JDM long-block in mine, since it would never pass emissions and rebuilts might cost more.
