Stalls at half a tank. Any ideas?
Stalls at half a tank. Any ideas?
Here's the deal - my car starts stalling just above half a tank when I roll to a sudden or quick stop. By the time I'm down to half a tank, every single time I come to even a slow rolling stop, it dies. And go figure - starts right back up every time. Still, I can't go more than half a tank without filling back up. Annoying, to say the least.
Is this a charcoal canister issue or is it something electrical? Anyone heard of this problem?

get the fuel pressure looked at. what is the model year of your car?

i'm not sure how the pump and pickup are situated in the tank of a 90 but could it be that your fuel pickup has come off of is leaking below the 1/2 tank level? so much so that when coming to a stop it pulls air instead of fuel? and on it being the fuel filter, if the filter is clogged, i would think it wouldn't run or would run crappy all of the time, not just when he comes to a quick stop and sloshes fuel around....

^ive seen situations, mostly on american cars where a clogged fuel filter makes the car run like **** under load and makes it stall when coming to a stop, but idle fine otherwise. I just like to ask that question first, youd be surprised how many people respond with "a fuel what..?"

lol don't worry, the fuel filter and fuel pump were the first things we replaced on this thing. then came the distributor and main relay. this car has been a battle, to say the least.
tuningmycivic - you have a very good point. i'll look into that, thank you.
