Need Help ASAP
Ok. My car has been running normal like usual. But my gas milage has went down dramastically. So I took it to the dealer today. They said that my ecm was bad. Said that it didn't have any RAM or ROM. They want to replace it. But I don't see how my computer is bad since its not in limp mode and it running fine. Any advice would help. Thanks
Re: Need Help ASAP
dont know what to tell u on that one, i just wonder if it couldnt just be reflashed, instead of replaced, dealerships always want to charge u more than u need to spend, most times they are just throwing parts at it(trust me, i work at one)... find out if there are any other mechanic shops around u with honda diagnostic computers on hand because if u get the same answer from them, then maybe u need to, but u could replace all ur computer parts, and still not have a solution, id get a second opinion is i guess what i am suggesting

Re: Need Help ASAP
The dealer replaced the ecm on Tuesday. The car is running better and my gas milage has returned to normal. Getting around 37mpg now.
Tech said that when the guy welded my exhaust on my car it caused the ecm to short out. This degraded it and it just kept getting worse.

Well I work at a honda dealership.... I have never seen this before but it does make sense. I have seen people short out computers by welding, wiring, etc......I've even seen one blow up from improper testing with an amp meter (puts out small amount of electricity)
If the vehicle had no ram / rom it was like it was running in cold start/open loop all the time. It would be running on something similiar to limp mode. Just running off the basic of programming. The computer would not be able to learn/adjust and if it did. The memory would be erased.
