Help on a problem please, damp spots...
Help on a problem please, damp spots...
I just discovered 2 patches on the drivers side that are really damp. One is beside ( touching) the hatch/gas door release and the other is in the middle of the carpet. Also, near the top of the carpet on the passengers side to the left is a little damp too. It did not rain, the liquid does not have smell though. Does anyone know what it is?
Is the water coming form under the car? because when i put a floor mat over it, the top of the floor mat was not wet. just the 2 patches on the drivers side and the big patch on the passengers side at the top.

Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
dude start stripping stuff to see where its coming from. Put in small cups to see if its dripping. If nothing is in the cup then its coming from below.
Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
where is the heater core?
The spot it is mainly wet is along the trim above the hatch/gas release. It just gets more damp even when it is not running. Hopefully I can find out what is wrong with it tomorrow when i take out the carpet thing.

Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
but that is most likely my problem? because the damp carpet runs from hatch release and up form the trim and on the passengers side it is at the very top and is at the left near the middle piece of the car.
If that is my problem how long does it take for a mechanic to fix it and do they normally have that part in the shop or do they generally have to order?

drop some stop leak in the rad for now (which i do not suggest),
or yea...have it fixed.
Shouldnt take more than a few hours to do it.
make sure you didnt do one of the following first:
A. **** yourself
B. Hole in floorboard(s)
C. Pull the carpet back on both sides of the car right at the console, pull it right back and do a check around there and up in around the center area of the dash/console.
Anti-freeze is sticky to the touch and has a sweet odor/

Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
ok thanks, i have a quick question though. isn't the heater core in the passengers side? my leak is on the drivers side, so would it be a hose or something opposed to the core? or there is no way foryou to tell me?
btw the damp area does not smell sweet or feel sticky, it is like odorless.

Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
I had the exact same problem in my Land Rover Discovery it was the A/C one of the lines the collects the condensation slipped off. At first you start getting damp spots in awkward places do to the way the floor pan is shaped and then you eventually get enough water in that you start flooding the inside of your car lol, kinda sucks. I don't know how the A/C is run in our cars but I would just start pulling back carpet and reach up under the front dash and feel around for anything damp. Good luck on finding it
Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
I think it may be that i have 2 holes on th ebottom or something because if it is a leak from one of those things wouldn't my whole side be flooded? I will fin dout soon.
Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
Ok, I thought I fixed it but it is still damp a lot less damp then before. Does anyone know a really good way to dry the cotton under the mat? Is it ok to use ablow dryer? cuz i used a vacummn to vaccum it before.
Re: Help on a problem please, damp spots...
the more i read this thread the more it starts to sound like my wifes
last car, 98 Sunfire i believe....
The passenger side would get soaked, everytime we drove the car in wet weather, slush, etc...
had the seat out, tore the carpet all back, couldnt see any visual holes anywhere!
I got the caulking gun a went to town on anything i suspected....NOTHIN!
it soaked us out afterwards too, We got so pissed of at that POS we sold it a month later.
Hope you have better luck then we had.

if your speakin of mildew, mould, etc...
You can NEVER kill this, even with bleach!
itll come right back at ya'
if you get it dry, you make smell the musky once in a blue, but when it gets damp from water on your shoes, or it has water come back from wherever the f*** it came from in the first place.....its back to haunt you!
