If you try to start your car with your fuel tank less than 1/4 full, then it's gonna take a while for the car to start. I heard this is normal with Hondas and it's not a problem. If this is your issue, I hope I helped... if not, then I don't know what else to say, sorry.

your gas tank is pressurized. when you are below a 1/4 of a tank it can take up to five seconds for the tank to charge befor the fuel supply can turn over the motor. this sounds like your problem. its normal , the dealer will probably not find any problems w/ your car on monday.

to prevent this from happening:

run higher octane fuel

don't start the car on less than 1/8 of a tank

when starting on low gas insert the key and turn it to the on postition so the dash lights turn on. wait for the gas needle to move up from empty to the correct quanity, and them turn the key to the start position. it will start no problem.

Running higher octane fuel will not help in the least bit.. High octane fuel is actually less explosive and harder to detonate than low octane fuel.. The only reason where high octane fuel should ever be used is in High compression engines to prevent pre-detonation (the fuel exploding before your spark plug sparks)... High octane fuel with it's higher flashpoint can prevent this in high compression engines..but will actually cause a very slight loss in power compared to lower octane fuels...but you won't blow your high compression engine.. but with our civics.. we have moderte compression engines in which 87 Octane fuel is perfect for.. no detonation..highest explosiveness (more power) Specially formulated race gasses are a different story because they use alcohol mixes to raise the fuels flash point but also improve it's explosive power.

And yes..it's a fuel pressure issue

Sorry I should have posted my problem on this thread so he it is again:

My new 2002 EX 5 spd did this tonight for the first time to me but it had more than 3/4 of a tank of fuel. I was suprised to have this problem with only 200 miles on it. My '94 Accord would do it when extremely low on fuel but I couldn't figure out why my Civic did it with almost a full tank.

Has anyone had any luck resolving this probelm?

Thanks,

John

might have something to do with the clutch/starter interlock if you have a 5-speed, you might not realize that you dont have the clutch pushed in far enough, or of course it could still have to do with the pressurized fuel tank

i recommended higher octane fuel because it is more refined and burns cleaner. when you start riding on empty and driving on fumes you begin to draw contaminates and deposits from the bottom of the gas tank. in some cases it can yeild and corrode fuel system and lines overtime. i advise on higher octane fuel as preventitive maintanance.

or buy your gas from large companies like shell, texaco, or esso as they all have multiple filters in line with their pumps to prevent any sedement of any kind to be transferred with the gasoline ..Also, placing a large high flow fuel filter just before the fuel rail never hurts.. But high octane fuel will cause you drop about 5-10 Horsepower in a normal compression engine.
