Timing/Valve Question
Timing/Valve Question
2001 LX Sedan. 134k miles (ya, way over due on a TB.. i know)
So a week ago i noticed a ticking noise when I start my car. It goes away (or is not noticeable when the car gets up to Op temp. The noise was coming from under the timing belt cover. I had an appointment to take it in tonight after work to and have the TB and WP replaced.
So today I was driving to work when I heard this sudden thud or pop, followed by loss of power, I noticed my RPMs dropping so i put her in neutral and coasted into a parking lot. I'm pretty sure its my timing belt that snapped.
My question: What type of engines are these D17's (can't remember the names). Is there a chance that my valves got jacked in the process or not?
I was planning on having the guy replace my head gasket also to try and fix a problem that's forcing coolant into the Reservoir, so maybe he will find out when its apart.

Re: Timing/Valve Question
real nice pal... why would u wait so long to change ur timing belt when u know its not safe.. we have interference type motors.. opposed to non-interferance type motors.. i revived a thread earlier this week about the same issue.. ur motor is done.. theres no way u couldve saved it.. the valves have already collided with the piston and probably mutliple times throughout all four cylinders.. it takes less than 2 seconds after the belt has snapped to ruin everything.. that was a very irresponsible thing to do.. hopefully u have some kind of warranty for a new motor..
