its depend on how you lower your car. If you cut your oem spring, the answer is yes.
If you buy a lowering spring or adjustable spring like GC, theanswer is no. In fact, it improve your handling even though you don't buy any sport struts or shocks. If you do buy the sport struts or shocks, it improve your handling significantly.

It's more like when you use aftermarket springs, your ride quality is going to go down.

If you are asking if lowering your center of gravity and using springs with progressive rates will make your car perform worse, the answer is no. You car came with a suspension for the average user. Smooth with lots of ground clearance. Installing a competent set of coil springs is only going to lower your center of gravity, which will make the car handle better in turns. Progressive springs will allow you to have more speed in the turns before the suspension gives up.

The only down side is that if you lower it too much, you won't have sufficient suspension travel to absorb road bumps and your car will handle worse. And the ride will be stiffer, though for some it is just right.

Maybe he was just talking about the old ways of cutting or heating, which did lower the performance just for looks.

Unless you get aftermarket struts...then it's a good ride ..

If you're talking about performance for handling, NO way. It's way better. You'll notice right away you won't have ANY body roll like you used to, and you can take 90 degree curves at about 40mph without slowing down. (not that I've tried that or anything ) If you're talking about performance for drag racing, the answer is no there too. You'll actually be able to launch alot better off the line because the rear suspension won't squat near as much, therefore you get better traction and don't spend valuable time spinning your wheels...(not that I've tried that either )
