coil over or new shocks with s techs
right now I have S techs on 17 inch rims and stock shocks, but I was wondering in the future when my shocks give, should I go with Tokico Illuminas and keep the S techs, or spend 900 bucks on Tein Basics.
I am not very happy with the 2 finger gap that the S techs provide, but I also have a lip kit and the current drop seems fair now. Though I would like to experiment and go just a little bit lower. Is it possible to lower the back a bit on coil overs but still leave the front with a 2 finger gap?

out of the two choices go with the basics
but if your going to spend 900 on basics, get ground controls with koni yellow shocks instead.
the ground controls can go from stock to a 2.5" drop
and then the koni's are fully adjustable
the tein basics will only let you adjust the ride height
you cant adjust the damping until you get to the tein SS

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
im a daily driver. i need something comfortable. my streets are filled with bumps and holes. not looking to tracking it or racing integras.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
do not get the knoi's they are inserts. and a pain in the ***...get tokcio blues or blisteins sturts...i got the blisteins and they are the best thing ever made. they beat the knoi's asses..the ride is so much better.
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
for daily driving, just get tokico blue's... save your money, unless you want to really slam your car. I find basics too soft for my taste and way overpriced.

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
if i get the tein basics do i need new struts?
i'm just a daily driver living in an area with a lot of potholes and crappy stuff on the roads so I wan't something that is as close to stock ride quality as possible. I just want to go about 1 finger lower, not slam it.
aren't ground controls full coil overs? why do i need shocks if I'm getting coil overs? thanks

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
thanks for making it simpler for me. so if i get tein coil overs thats it, nothing else? (aside from a camber kit) i need to buy?
.. what about tein SS? that allows for shock controls? what kind of benefits would that have? please note again that i want as much comfort as possible and a 1 finger drop all around

Get the basics, in my opinion you don't need to adjust your dampening. There would be no point for you to spend the extra money. In all honestly I'd PM someone with the basics to make sure that they go that low just to be on the safe side.

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
If the price is similar, go with Bilstiens and a spring.
Seriously, bilstiens are near works of art when it comes to dampers. Far superior to Tein.
As far as comfort... Then you shouldn't be looking at Linear springs at all. but rather a different set of progressive rated springs (if you are looking to lower the car more)

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
i have the same set up i think, sedan with s tein stock shock on 17' rim i want to have control on the drop and have as much comfort as possible, anybody with similar setup and post pictures before and after...on all different combos..
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
with the basics, the only thing you will need is the top mounts from your factory struts. Other than that, you just bolt them in, adjust the height and go. I love them. But prepare for a far from comfortable ride.
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
im running s tecs too i dont care that much cause its better then riding on cut springs. get like shocks but if u are running 17's get coilovers will be a better choice
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
^ yep definately
i just ordered tein basic last week, and getting it installed next week.
im running s tech on stock shocks like kcari,
i'll post pics up, when i get it installed. I'm goin to set the ride height with no finger gap front and back.

i got blisteins and i love them...i use to have knois and im so glad i got rid of them...def worth the money and not having a insert..more of a pain in the ***, and the ride is far more better then the knoi's hands down.
Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
youre never going to get a "comfortable" ride with a lowered car. the idea is to increase handling. Thats like asking for a turbo'd car thats good on gas.

Re: coil over or new shocks with s techs
of course but i want something thats better than most coil overs.
Is it easy to adjust your Tein Basics? easy to get all 4 sides perfect? I was concerned about one side being higher than the other or something.
I'm looking for a 1 finger drop, do basics provide that?
