Arrow GROUND CONTROL + OEM/TOKICO STRUT -> Koni yellow upgrade???

alright.....so ive been thinking... it all stated out when a member on here was selling his GC (ground control) for real cheap (60 shipped, what a deal huh?)

but the only problem was that it was for STRUTS like OEM, TOKICO BLUES, ETC...

however, when i looked at my REAR KONI, i noticed that it came with a SPRING plate...which means that its a plate that you use to put springs like eibach, teins, goldlines, or neuspeed on.

if you got GC, then this C-ring would hold it up. it also holds the plate up for REGULAR lowering springs

^that picture, i took a pix of it upside down, so u guys can see the C-ring

notice it has the lil C-ring crease, JUST like the rear GC

ground control rear (c-ring fitting):

plate (c-ring fitting):

SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION...

IF YOU BUY THE REGULAR GROUND CONTROLS
(the ones made for struts like tokico blues/hp or ur OEM strut) CAN YOU UPGRADE LATER TO KONI YELLOWS USING THE SAME GROUND CONTROL SLEEVE/SPRING , BUT YOU WOULD USE THE SPRING PLATE OF THE REAR TO HOLD UP THE REAR GROUND CONTROL SLEEVE/SPRING

because the rear sleeve/spring (one made for regular struts) would sit on the koni plate JUST as if it was a regular strut [like the tokicos or oem]

note: those ground control sleves are made for the konis if u guys were wondering, thats why they fit perfectly. i can imagine u guys asking "if they fit, why is he asking these stupid questions?"

^ you guys see what i kinda mean, especially that last pix?

...it WOULD work, but the only concern that the sleeve diameter made for the tokicos or oem might be too small for the koni tube diameter, but i doubt it...

the sleeve could also be a LITTLE bit bigger, but that would cause a problem.

Re: GROUND CONTROL + OEM/TOKICO STRUT -> Koni yellow upgrade???

well, i jsut figured out something...

imma take the diameter of the rear yellow...

then imma take the diameter of the rear oem strut when i do my suspension tormow...

then ill compare the diameter of the two tubes, and tell u guys if the GC sleeve for the one made for the oem/tokico strut is the same as the yellow

Re: GROUND CONTROL + OEM/TOKICO STRUT -> Koni yellow upgrade???

Ok you are making this wayyy to complicated. so here goes.
IF YOU BUY THE REGULAR GROUND CONTROLS (the ones made for struts like tokico blues/hp or ur OEM strut) CAN YOU UPGRADE LATER TO KONI YELLOWS USING THE SAME GROUND CONTROL SLEEVE/SPRING , BUT YOU WOULD USE THE SPRING PLATE OF THE REAR TO HOLD UP THE REAR GROUND CONTROL SLEEVE/SPRING
There is only one type of gc set up. if you have other than koni yellow shocks the sleeve rests on the spring perch.
If you have koni yellows than you purchase the adapter that will insert in the bottom of the gc sleeve (the black thing in the picture) and that will rest directly on the clip. (< this is the best way as it supports the clip better.)
You could run the gc sleeve without the adapter and rest it on the koni spring perch, but there have been many clip failures doing it this way.
on a side note you should also have a thick polyurethane sleeve that goes in between the rear gc sleeves and the strut body. do not run those without the poly sleeves.

why are they Fed up? i just simply put those sleeves ON THE PLATE for demo purposes.

they are not Fed up. those sleves are MADE for the YELLOWs...and i dont intend to leave it like that, i intend to run the sleeve straight on the rear yellow.

BTW, DSsevenEm2, do you mind taking the diameter of ur GC? i need the inner tube diameter

Re: GROUND CONTROL + OEM/TOKICO STRUT -> Koni yellow upgrade???

both what djmota and boilmaker are correct. If you have gc's you dont need the spring perch at all. The gc's are specifically designed to rest on the clip.

Using the spring perches to try to hold the gc's in place would be a bad idea since they won't designed to function like that. Also keep in the mind, the size difference you will see between the koni's and the oem/tokico shocks will be in the front. I believe the rears are relatively the same size. The fronts are going to be a lot bigger.

summary

easiest and safest way would be just to buy the adapter pieces from gc.

there probably only around $30 since thats how much more they charge for the koni designed gc's.

Dont use the spring perches with the gc's. The instructions from koni specifically say dont use the spring perches if you have coil overs. The spring perches are only for springs.

1. you dont need spring plate

2. call gc for price on adapter pieces
