Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Ok so I finally put my Dezod V3 turbo kit on with upgraded precision turbo.
It's been at the shop for a month waiting to get tuned. The tuner I took it to really only deals with high dollar ecm's aem, hondatas, etc. So, they took alittle while to figure the emanage. The only problems were having currently is tuned @ 9 lbs the car made 195 whp 163 tq, however, the car is on the lean side & the tuner cannot correct this because the emanage values are maxed. Especially on fuel trim. 2nd problem is on partial throttle the car hits in & out of lean/rich pockets. I do not like that at all since this is going to be a daily driver.
Does anyone have any advice on these two issues, the car runs great @ idle & WOT. I know the real answer is stepping up to a better ECM & Bigger Injectors but, I don't have 1200 sitting around right (I work for Honda!)

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

A.) retard the timing during partial throttle to minimize detonation
B.) lower the boost level
C.) pick up some SRT4 Injectors and retune
D.) ditch the emanage and get PCS-XFC or AEM F/IC
E.) do all of the above

PS. 195whp on 9lbs? That does not seem right. Good luck with the setup though I'm dying to pickup a dezod v3 turbo.

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

195 whp @ 9 psi, I think thats awesome. I forgot to mention 75mm throttle body if that adds justification for ya
The dezod kit is awesome, the manifold is a very solid piece.
I had no a/c, p/s clearance problems.
Only problems I had were with the bottom intercooler piping needing a serious cut & bent. Looks pretty wicked. Also down pipe bung for wideband is welded so no 02 sensor fits, hits block.
Not to mention the turbo!!! OMG it's awesome, thumbs up to paul @ dezod for helping select a proper turbo....that thing can move some air quick!!!
Precision 5027E T3/T4 Hyprid ball bearing

PS. - I'll post pictures of dyno & car this weekend when I got pick it up...tuner is 2 hours away!!!

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

195 hp at 9psi is not a lot, i would expect you to break 200hp at least with that setup, Chris was at 172 hp at 5 psi on an automatic. others are running 10-12 and hit 240 hp.

Emanage just isn't that great of a tuning tool. But like Ian said, retard the timing to minimize detonation cause that is fatal to an engine. If the tuner cannot go any further because of maxing them either turn the boost down so that you are not maxing it out or upgrade, that's the only solution I can think of. Or else sell your emanange and injectors and use that money to buy new stuff. The AEM F/IC is only $400 now and the pNp harness is another $200,

You might want to read my current thread about tuning nightmares and a 3/4 complete turbo setup. I didn't do it right and now I'm backwards - gotta buy more stuff and get a re-tune.

those injectors are maxed out. lower boost and retard some timing until you can get everything you need to run higher boost...hondata, and some injectors

The fuel delivery is the downer on your set-up.

Step up to SRT-4 injectors and a better EMS and watch the power come.

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Agreed on all points. Even though I haven't even installed mine yet (come on Summit box of exhaust tubing arrive already!), 9 psi on RSX-S injectors and a stock pump is a no-go. I just got hit to take a trip to a nasty part of Africa in October for 30-60 days, but the good news is that it will more than pay for new SRT-4 injectors, rising rate FPR, and K-pro!

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Well I didn't cut any corners on this kit, I've been building it for a year now, every little bit. From all stainless steel lines, welded pan, custom din gauge mount, the list is long!!! Like I said, see Paul @ dezod...he hooked me up. I'll let ya'll know it runs tomorrow when I picked up. We ended up turning boost down to 8 psi and the a/f ratio was solid @ 11.9ish. The partial throttle probelm was fixed by turning boost & cutting ignition. The car idles amazing and is totally drivable. No overheating what so ever. Only problem I could hear was a tap tap @ idle.....not like a valve train problem tap, more like an injector click/tap or exhaust leak. Not sure till I go tomorrow, were gonna give her one more look over. I'll scan the dyno on & post pics.

So all in all I got out the door with almost 95 whp to the wheel increase for about $4,000 grand. That includes tuning, not being cheap about parts, only the best & my CC stage 4 clutch install!

P.S. Do not buy the HKS manual boost controller. Brand new out of the box it was broke, cannot adjust boost at all. Had to chuck it for turbo xs the shop had.

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

YOu need bigger injectors. 577cc i am pushing 209 at 5 psi on my car and i needed bigger injectors plus mine is automatic. As far as the duty cycle goes the tuner should of told you that 9psi is not going to happen. The V3 kit flows so much more air than what most other kits do. Honestly 310cc are just enough for a base setup of 5psi.

As far as timing goes you should at the most have -2 degrees taken out on your top end.

Well I am glad you finally got her tuned. GL with it all and enjoy the investment.

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Well, picked her up today. She idles & drives amazing. A/C blows cold! Fixed the lower intercooler piping aswell & cleaned up my engine bay. Only problems currently...dump tupe is rubbing on frame at decel, need to modify. Exhaust rubs slightly between shifts. The check engine light was on but for random cylinder misfire & Electronic Load Detection for idle purposes. Cleared all codes & gave her hell all day long. Temp gauge never moved & check engine light never came back on. Believe they were just on from when we started tuning.

Now, cruising is awesome & power is kinda strange. 1st,2nd hall butt, 3rd is kinda iffy, & man 4th gear pulls hard. Car builds 1 psi of boost @ 2200 rpm & pulls hard at 6,000 rpm but then it;s time to shift But On partial throttle when you mash it into boost, the vac to boost transition has a hiccup if you will. A slight pause, not like cutting out. I talked to my tuner & he said due to the wideband 02 sensor & smart obd2 computer the car is trying to relearn over the tune so it can run a perfect 14.7 AFR. Also, it doesn't always do it. Anyone have any suggestions? Will post graph & pic tomorrow after a bath.

P.S> How much am I gonna have to cut my bumper to fit?

p1105 - baro sensor, built into stock ecu. Figure it came on when I boosted this morning when cold

still having problems with hiccup on vac to boost. Anyone?????
Oh and if I disonnect the battery or take the emanage out the map should be stored it will not erase correct?

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

wow so on the way back to work today, I hit 2psi with the a/c on.
When I let off the gas the rpms started to race between 1,000-3,000 rpm, the rpms race at idle & while driving in gear.
I checked coolant, vacuum lines, everything. Now the emanage also blinks both lights at me. Usually while driving the active light is solid & the other blinks. Car also runs very bad now, only thing I can think of now is I cracked my intake manifold or the emanage crapped out Yes, I check the IAC as well. It was running so well too, too well. Anyone got any advice, my car isn't drivable again!

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Hard to say without having the car to look at. Just check everything very thoroughly. Any CELs? Could be a vaccuum leak. Might be a good idea to shut off the AC while beating on it. IDK if it will cause problems but I would shut it off for safety sake.

Re: Tuning Help & Dyno Results

Well, I checked everything after work today. I got out the can of brake clean & went to work on my intake manifold while my cars rpms surged like crazy. I knew it was a leak after the throttle because the throttle body is closed & the rpms are racing. The last spot I checked on the drivers side edge, between the injector plate & manifold. As soon as I sprayed the manifold there the idle raised suddenly & then sputtered for a second (duh, cuz I'm spraying brake clean into my engine ) As soon as you stop the idle goes back to racin. So tomorrow I'm gonna tear it apart & see if I just need a new o-ring or a manifold. Kinda shitty only around 2 psi it blew it. I barely even mashed on it....I knew it was running way too good!

oh and not to mention I shelled the tranny before the turbo, after I installed the clutch (as an addition for the turbo) I have about 4-5 Honda TSB on my transmission. It really does make pretty cool noises! Haha only when you turn right in 2nd (sounds like marbles, reverse idler gear bangin(common problem) Downshift(clunks really bad, & yes all suspension & mount are good, Makes a hell of a racket taking off aswell.

So if anyone wants to start a fund raiser or seek sponsorship for me I wouldn't be mad!! Haha
Come on DEZOD, I'll test fit your new intake manifold & fuel system *wink**wink*
