official Vehicle weight of an Kswap EM2 EX

I have always speculated as to what my car weights, but today I got an official weight on my car at an event.

I have shaved weight in the following ways
-no AC components
-no cruise
-lightweight rims (225/50/15 and rims weight 35lbs per tire)
-no rear seats
-completely shaved trunk

The total weight with the K20a2 was 2510 lbs. I am going to remove the remainder of the rear interior to hopefully shave an addional 30lbs and get it down to less than 2500 lbs.

hmmm, sounds to me like the scale may have been a bit off, considering curb weight is almost 2,600lbs. I have the weights of a few close to stock EM2 EX civics and they are within a couple of lbs. of what the curb weight for an EX was listed at (2,584lbs.). So either the scale was off or they forgot some serious pieces to your car at the factory.

Where or how did you weigh it??

Re: official Vehicle weight of an Kswap EM2 EX

Dont forget, if you are cornering the car, weight balance is more important that actual weight to a point. The way my car is setup for the 1/4 mile I have almost a 60 30 balance which makes the car very unstable entering a corner while hard on the brakes. But, its great to keep all the weight on the front tires for traction reasons from a standstill.

sorry i meant 2542 lol not 2452. But i weighed it at this place called PCS metals, when i went to go recycle/sell my steelies, they weigh your car before u put anything in the huge steel pile, then they weight your car afterwards just so they know the difference then they pay you based on how much they pay per pound.

7thgen's are freakin' heavy! And even if you take out the rear seats, it wont help much because they're so damn light. Other panelling is light too..
EG's with a stock K swap run low 13s, even dip into 12s. There's a video on youtube. Now those are light!

Who cares thats like comparing an apple to an orange. Yeah they might both be round but they are completely different on the inside and out. I would rather have a car that looks like a car, vs something that looks more like an egg. Yeah they are lighter, but unless you have a good suspension, and tires, they are still just as fast as me lol.

Re: official Vehicle weight of an Kswap EM2 EX

I don't know how people are saying how their cars are so heavy stock. I had my car weighed at Roebling road. They use these scales to verify the power to weight ratio of all the cars comming off the track after a race. These are very accurate and my car with half a tank of gas, 21lbs per wheel HFP wheels, sunroof, and all options available on a 2002 Honda Civic EX and I has a progress rear swayt bar which adds more weight and without me in the car it was 2504lbs. Yes it is heavier then older civic that is true, but they are totally different cars.

An RSX weights in a 200lbs more than an ex civic, I figure the engine swap adds 80lbs so it weights 120lbs more. 120lbs is what I would consider a decent amount of weight difference.

bro I'm comparing one civic chasis to another. How am I comparing apples to oranges? I'm just discussing chassis weights...
As for EK's looking like "half a car", thats just your opinion though.. I think EK's are friggin' sexy...
A stock EG/EK K swapped is MUCh faster than a stock EM2 swapped.
When you said you're faster than EKs and EGs... you just compared your S/C'd K swapped em2 to a STOCK K swapped EG/EK. Forced induction to N/A? Thats comparing apples to oranges my friend.

Re: official Vehicle weight of an Kswap EM2 EX

wow you guys are making me feel like my civic needs a major diet. I work at a metal recycling business that has a large scale to weigh trucks coming in and out with materials. My buddy jumped his wrx on the scale at the end of the day for the hell of it and it weighed in at a hefty 3000lbs on the dot. So i said why the heck not, it was embarassing when my civic tipped the scale at a whopping 2800lbs on the dot. The scale is pretty accurate with only intervals of 20lbs. I guess the two heavy duty 12's, dynamat galour (more then 50 sq ft.) and heavy *** motegi dp12's just dont make for a lean machine. Anyways i dont see the point in 'lightening' up my car until doing performance mods so for now all the hefty **** stays. wondering if 300 lbs would really make a huge difference, isnt it like 100lbs is a tenth of a second off your quarter mile time?

Yeah but you are comparing two different classes of cars. A EG/EK do weigh less true and are faster swapped *sort of* but look at the title kswapped EM2 EX... where does it say EG/EK? NO where... A EG*Add a G* and get an EGg looks like have a car. and when i beat them at the track b swapped, h swapped, and even a couple k swapped, it doesn't mean **** about how much it weighs but how good a drive is in the drivers seat.

hey dude im sorry, but i am really not impressed by your cars weight, i work at a freight company so we have scales that can weigh whole semi trucks, and when i drove my car on it, i tipped it to 2640 lbs, and that includes me in the car with half a tank of gas, (im 175 lbs), and my car has 2 12" subs, plus i have a back seat and not a skeleton of a car, i know your gunna flame me for it, but i am hardly impressed by your weight saving ideas, but keep trying. try removing the engine+tranny+ the remainder of everything inside your car, and just get drawn by horses down the track, you'll be running like 5 min 1/4 mile times, but hey at least you can brag about weighing like 300lbs

First you do not drive a EM2 civic and weight that little, second I am not bragging by no means about the weight of my car. Third my effort to shave weight has absoulutely NOTHING to do with 1/4 mile times, it is in an effort to compete well in my autox class. Fourth while you may not be impressed by the weight, the fact that the weight/bhp ratio of the car is somewhere along the lines of 10-10.5lbs/hp is impressive. True I have no back seat, nothing in the trunk, and have to think about what rims are light not what rims I like the most........My car is not a daily driver and it does not matter what car I drove to compete in the SM class you MUST take EVERY advantage you can get.

This thread is not about "bling" look at how light my car is, it is about how to make an EM2 a competetive car in any motor sport where weight matters. Obviously you are more concerned with bumpin with your bros and impressing the ladies in your tin can of a car.

and Kasimmmm the only EKs that are that much faster as far as 1/4 mile times are the EK hatches the coupes really don't seem to be that much faster. I really liked the looks, the balance and the way my EM2 handled which made it a good choice for my motor swap and use as a competative car in autox/road racing
