Question Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

Ok, So to get straight to the point, Im taking my car to a shop to get the timing belt/water pump changed. I am ordering my parts from Majestic Honda b/c its cheaper than Canada Honda. What parts are recommended to change while I'm changing the belt. If you can give me Majestic Honda part number too that would be awesome. Okay. Some other threads suggested other parts be changed as well, but I am not to clear on that, so what all parts should I get? So far I have:

1.) Timing Belt...Check
2.) Water Pump...Check
3.)
4.)
5.)
6.)

Anyone that knows, feel free to help out. Thank you!

LOL - I've been quoted!!

Too bad that vendor doesn't ship to anywhere but the continental US. At least all the parts are there. I'd throw in a valve cover gasket too since they're only $6 from Majestic.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

Are there any new gaskets or O-Rings associated with any of the parts ( Water pump) that I might want to look at replacing as well? Most of them are 2-5 dollars, so if there are any crucial ones, I may as well replace them.

Water pump should come with the O-ring, other than the VC gasket, there's nothing else to mess with.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

I was reading something in one of the other timing belt threads about something usually breaking when it gets taken off when changing the belt. I cant seem to find that thread now, but does anyone have any idea what part that might be. Im trying to make sure I have all parts as the Canada Honda dealership is 3x-4x more expensive; literally.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

In theory, you need the belt.

Realistically, also get a H2O pump, which comes with the gasket, and the tensioner set, both are wise things to change.
Also not necessary, but you might as well since you gotta remove them, is the 2 accessory belts.

You're also gonna need to buy the Honda crank pulley tool if you dont have one.

Like I said, its getting done at a shop, I am just supplying them with all the parts so I don't have to get ripped off at the other dealership. I know guys there, thats why I can do this.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

Do you guys usually change the auto tensioner for the timing belt when you change the timing belt?? I just had to replace my head gasket, and while I was in there, i replaced the timing belt and water pump though, the other ones only had 40k on them... but I didn't replace the tensioner...I didn't remember the manual stating to change it, just inspect it I thought... It seemed fine... do these usually fail? Or is it just best practice to change it?? yeah, when I ordered my stuff, I ordered the water pump and didnt' realize it came with the o-ring.. so I ordered a separate one and it held up my order waiting for it for 4 days... so now I have an extra o-ring I'll never use for a water pump haha..

Thanks

Haha, Yea I'm in the same boat, so Im trying to get this all sorted out. I went to the hondaautomotiveparts and there is a cylinder head gasket kit that goes for 116.xx and then under the cylinder head there is this 2 different ones for 22.xx.

Which is the right one, cause I don't wanna pay for what I don't need. Oh I need to get my head gasket replaced as well. This is the whole reason for it in the first place.

This:

370595 005 1 GASKET, CYLINDER HEAD (ISHINO GASKET) NO COLOR 31.80 22.26 Qty:
370596 005 1 GASKET, CYLINDER HEAD (NIPPON LEAKLESS) NO COLOR 31.80 22.26
Link:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...R+HEAD+%282%29

or this:
370746 001 1 GASKET KIT, CYLINDER HEAD NO COLOR 167.38 117.17

Link:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ry5=GASKET+KIT

Thanks in advance

OOPS. I just noticed that its the KIT that will include everything thing. Will it include the valve gasket. Will it be cheaper tho for me to just order the specific parts for changing it or oder the whole kit?

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

Its always nice to have a head gasket laying around, but its cheaper to get just the few gaskets you need. They sell our HG kits (has HG, VC gasket, water neck gasket, intake and exhaust, spark plug seals, and some others) for $60 on Ebay. He should ship to Canada as well. I have that HG on my car now for the past month and no problems.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

Ok, so basically heres how I break things down.
Head Gasket Job:
-Nippon Leakless Head Gasket
-Valve Cover Gasket

Timing Belt and Water Pump:
- Timing Belt
-Water Pump
-SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS
-A/C Belt
-Power steering belt
-Timing Belt tensioner kit.

Do I have everything down. These things all have to be done, my head gasket being the most important. I just want to make sure tomorrow when I order all the parts, that I have everything they are going to want to replace when they do this job as I don't want them to have to do it again a year down the road.

Re: Parts needed for Timing belt change. Please help out.

You don't need to replace your head gasket unless its leaking. That's a major job and one of those things you don't **** with unless its giving you a problem. Definitely completely unrelated to your timing belt and pump R&R.

You didn't blow your HG did you?

Whoops. Didn't see that part of the post.

Here's the gasket set I was talking about. He may ship to Canada if you ask him.

What about parts needed for head gasket? Just the head gasket and the valve cover gasket? I'm going to get a new thermostat too and eliminate ALL possible problems even tho its 90% hg problem.
