older d16 head into a d17 block ?
hi , i know the law of all forums {search before asking stupid things} the thing is that i am not too good with the english thing , im from Puerto Rico , i was wondering if a d16 sohc vtec head can be swaped in a d17 sohc non vtec , if the head studs from a d16 can be used in a d17 , why the head wont fit in the d17 ?

You can run a distributor. You just need a computer for it, or you could run coil packs if you could get them in the chambers with a proper seal. The passages and boltholes don't line up though.

its 16 valves all the time. Yes it would be benefical, but it doesnt work, so the point is moot.

Unclejuice, that would be a perfect idea , the problem is that here in Puerto Rico those heads are very very hard to find , so , let me see if i get it , i can put a d16 head with the old distributor and just plug a d16 wiring with the d16 computer ? sorry to keep asking things , i am good with vr6's , i dont know too much of Hondas

Stock form, yeah, power wise, but you aren't going to get a z6 or y8 much over the 400 mark in stock form. Most I've seen is 440-ish whp bone stock z6 head. But then you have to start doing work for more power. D17, put in a cam, retainer and spring set and you can break 400.
And keep in mind that just because you have all valves operating at all times on a d16 doesn't mean you're making good power in vtec all the time. You can enable either motor to engage vtec whenever you want with the right management. It just depends on the setup. Way too generic of a question to answer straight up. Too many variables.
Re: older d16 head into a d17 block ?
Well the question of "is it more beneficial to run a d16 head" leaves too many options open. Yeah, you can make more power with a bone stock d16 head over a bone stock d17 head, alot more. d17 heads are very restrictive in stock form. But with a cam, its a totally different story. A little portwork and even more can be done. That's an apples to oranges comparison. It depends on your power goal and what you want to do. It takes less work to make power on a d16, thats for sure.
